After a 1-0 loss at home to Newcastle in the final league game of the season, the Vipers returned to the Hull Arena on Wednesday might for the first game in the playoffs. Longstaff opened the scoring after 5 minutes taking a shot after breaking away. Ladislav Kudnra made the initial save but there was no mistake with the rebound.

Jeff Glowa then failed to hit the target when he broke away and 10 seconds later Dru Burgess rounded Teskey, shot on his backhand and put his shot wide of the net. Ten minutes after the go-ahead goal, Beveridge doubled the Vipers lead while Pavel Gomenyuk and Alipov were both sitting out penalties.

The Stingrays stepped up a gear in the second period and peppered the Vipers net with shot after shot and after 32 minutes Nikolaev hit a Glowa pass into the top corner, past a disappointed Doug Teskey. Hull kept applying the pressure but could not beat Teskey. Tasker scored a empty-netter to seal the win for Newcastle. Guildford Flames visit Hull on Saturday face off 5:30
