Hull Stingrays vs Sheffield Steelers -

The Hull Stingrays first competitive match against the one mighty Sheffield Steelers ended with a victory for the Stingrays after a match that had everything. It was end to end but both teams dominated parts of the match.

Both teams came out looking to test the water and Sheffield had a early opportunity with Slava Koulikov sitting out a 2-minute penalty for a harsh interference call.
The Stingrays sat it out and grew in confidence. Scott Wray and Andrai Nikoleav both had great chances but saves from Platt kept it at 0-0 until a Wray found Glowa in front with an open net to shoot at.

The Stingrays fans couldn't believe it and when the Steelers came out for the second period they started gooning it up with Brent Bobyck and Dion Darling both having to sit roughing penalty minutes. Sheffield still managed to out-shoot the hosts despite having three powerplays.
Sheffield carried on where they left off and Parrish soon found himself in the sin-bin which gave Pavel Gomenyuk the opportunity to release one of his rockets of slapshot which found it's way straight through Platt in the Steelers goal in the 42nd minute.

This left us with 18 minutes of nerve jangling hockey and 11 minutes later Marc Lefebvre pulled one back for the visitors. With Kudrna laid on the floor and two players on top of him there was not much he could do to preserve his shut-out.
The harder Sheffield tried the more frustrated they got and Parrish and Rocket Ron Shudra both got stupid penalties on them.

In the last minute Darling got a game penalty for cross checking and some cheap shot from Mike Peron on Kudrna led to a bit of fisticuffs between himself and Stingrays second goals scorer Gomenyuk and both players earned themselves a early shower.

Stingrays managed to see off the last thirty seconds and the Hull Arena erupted.
After the game an exited Stingrays captain Craig Minard said This team can go somewhere. If we'd lost tonight that would have been four games in a row we would have lost and heads would start to drop but tonight just showed the potential this team has.

Will this be the kick-start that Hull needs to push for a better position than last year? Will it matter because if we get the wooden spoon again at least this year we can say yes but we beat the Squealers this season !.

Sports - Fast Electric Radio Control Model Boats
By Stuart Batley
For some years now I've been going through the motions, like most model enthusiasts do, buying in turn boats, planes, cars, heli's (both IC and electric) but most settle down to one, mine's 'fast electric boats'. I first started by buying an ARTR kit from my local 'Hobby Stores' and then off to the lake and join the club there. On arrival I was taken aback by the speed of some of the hydro type boats, whizzing by. Read more...

Sports - 2004 Beverley Annual 10k Race and Fun Run By Mo
On a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning May 16th, I headed off to the Beverley Annual 10k run to capture some photographs and do my best to find a racer who may write about the experience to accompany them. Clearly as it's me writing this I was unsuccessful, maybe next year, so you'll have to put up with my scribbling of the day. Read more...

Sports - Take Me to the River - Carp Anglers by Mo
I am an amateur angler, mostly river fishing as a youth at a time when televisions were black and white. I was 14 maybe, I had my own rods (3) and tackle, a selection of floats, some ledger weights, hooks and line, all kept in our shed alongside my recent purchase of maggots. I always took great pleasure in seeing my four sisters scream and run at the sight of these little yellow .. Read more...
