Hull Stingrays vs. Dundee Stars - 6 Dec 2003 by Matt

A much improved Hull Stingrays got their first win of the season today against top of the league Dundee Stars. Andrei Nikolaev opened the scoring after just 22 seconds of play following a well-worked setup from a new look first line, with Noel Burkitt moving up from the second and Evgeny Alipov moving from the first.

Patric Lochi equalized for Dundee after he broke away from the Stingrays defence and put the puck past Pasi Raitanen. Two goals in quick succession gave Hull a 3-1 lead with Pope and Koulikov scoring. Dundee replied once more before the end of the first period when Wishart found himself in front of the goal with only Raitanen left to beat.

The second and third period was end to end but neither teams found the back of the net until Dundee pulled their net-minder for a extra skater but player/coach Rick Strachan scored a forth goal for the Stingrays and killed off any hopes that Dundee had had. After the game Rick Strachan said "it has been a long time coming and now we have our first win we won't have it hanging over our heads."

Without a home game until 27th December Hull will have to continue with performances like tonight's.
