Hull Stingrays vs. Dundee Stars - 9 November 2003-11-09
by Matt
Hull Stingrays got their second point of the season after a gruelling encounter at the Hull arena with the Dundee Stars.
The game exploded into life after just 2 minutes when Dino Bouba opened the scoring, Slava Koulikov then went on to score a unanswered hat-trick; the first after four minutes, while Hopkins was sitting out a two minute penalty for roughing. His second came on the eight minute mark with the third on fifteen.
Before the third goal, Scott Young decided to take the law into his own hands and gave Evgeny Alipov a few knocks to the head. These days, that's all Scott Young can do.
The second period saw Dundee pull the score back from 3-1 to 3-4 with Paric Lochi scoring two goals in under a minute and then Gary Wishart after thirty minutes.
Andrei Nikolaev made the scores level five minutes into the third period. An off-the-puck incident saw Stephen Johnson receive a 4 minute penalty for roughing and Dino Bouba get a 4+10 for attempted butt-ending. Only minutes later, Scott Young was in the sin bin for slashing. When he heard that he had been given a ten minute penalty, he came out of the sin bin, pushed the lines person to the ground and punched the referee. The match then sizzled out with a depleted Dundee and a flu-stricken Hull team both looking very tired.

With nothing left in them, the game finished 4-4 after overtime. Rick Strachan said that he was 'happy with a point' and that 'the game had everything - goals, fighting and even ref-bashing. The fans love it!'

Since as far back as I can remember there has been something in my life. It is impossible to explain but it has always stood by me. Like some people cannot live without drugs, I can not live without ice hockey. For me it started back in 1991. In the previous Season the Seahawks managed to win the division one championship and how I wish I had seen that!

My guess was right, and the glorious evening sunshine brought the skatepark kids out in force. Word had obviously got around about the site as I felt like the Pied Piper - everywhere I turned I was met with tricks, questions and overwhelming enthusiasm.

Fiction - Telling Lies by Nicholas Boldock

At half past five Harry arranged all the papers on his desk into neat piles, as he always did before going home. He shoved his pens into the blue plastic desk tidy and shut down his PC. He performed this same ritual every evening, did it automatically, even unconsciously. He felt overjoyed to be finally going home - the days seemed to be getting longer and longer and longer - even though home, to Harry, was only marginally more bearable than work.

The time was 7.30 am and I was already awake. Liz stirred as I crept out of
the caravan without waking Alex and Anna. From our elevated position overlooking the bay,
the Med looked as calm as a millpond. The panoramic view was stunning as usual.
