Hull Stingrays vs. Edinburgh Capitals
22 November 2003
by Matt

|
Hull Stingrays failed to get their first win of the season despite leading 2-1 with only five minutes left in the game.
Edinburgh's man of the match Jan Krajicek scored the game-tying goal with 4 minutes and 55 seconds left on the clock.
|
A goal after 13 minutes from Miroslav Droppa had given Edinburgh a first period advantage and Hull didn't respond until almost 38 minutes had passed. Timchenko hit home a Nikolaev pass from in front of the net.
In between the two goals Brent Pope and Tony Hand han an altercation which lead to a 2+10 misconduct penalty on both players. As the penalties ran out both players went at it again. Even though both players dropped their gloves, the only penalty dished out was on Pope who received his second 10 misconduct and was ejected from the game.

Hull came out looking up for it in the third and after three minutes Andrei Nikolaev scored to give Hull the lead but in the last ten minutes the Stingrays started to tire.
The Capitals made the most of this with three goals in five minutes.
|
|
Once Krajicek had equalized, Saul took advantage of poor defending and gave Edinburgh the go-ahead goal with just over a minute left in the game.
|
Hull tried to get the goal back but with six skaters on and an empty net Edinburgh took full advantage with Adrian Saul scoring.
After the game Brent Pope said he was disappointed with the way the referee had handled the Tony Hand incident "How can he still be on the ice while I have to stand and watch? I'm very disappointed - the result could have been different if I was still out there on the ice".

Since as far back as I can remember there has been something in my life. It is impossible to explain but it has always stood by me. Like some people cannot live without drugs, I can not live without ice hockey. For me it started back in 1991. In the previous Season the Seahawks managed to win the division one championship and how I wish I had seen that!

Fiction - Telling Lies by Nicholas Boldock
|
|
At half past five Harry arranged all the papers on his desk into neat piles, as he always did before going home. He shoved his pens into the blue plastic desk tidy and shut down his PC. He performed this same ritual every evening, did it automatically, even unconsciously. He felt overjoyed to be finally going home - the days seemed to be getting longer and longer and longer - even though home, to Harry, was only marginally more bearable than work.

The time was 7.30 am and I was already awake. Liz stirred as I crept out of
the caravan without waking Alex and Anna. From our elevated position overlooking the bay,
the Med looked as calm as a millpond. The panoramic view was stunning as usual.
