News from 'Ull Part 2 - The Scandal of Hull's Illegal Scrap Dealers
It emerged today that several Hull individuals have been arrested for possessing illegal scrap, with intent to supply.
But we're not talking scrap of the metal variety - it's the elusive but strangely irresistible bits of batter that collect in the bottom of the fryer in chip shops all over Hull.
Yes - 'scraps'. Until recently, scraps were the staple diet of many poor people in Hull, being the cheapest item on the chip shop menu.
But new food regulation laws have seen scraps outlawed, thrown off the menu , banned from all chip shops - and smuggled into the hands of underground dealers.
People in Hull are outraged at the ban. Scraps have been sold in Hull's chip shops for almost a century, and used to feed whole families stricken by poverty.
Scraps have also been a popular tool for bartering with the local prostititutes. As elderly resident Arthur Handmill says : I remember when you could get a decent bit of how's- your- father for two shillings and a scrap buttie.
Alas, these days are no more. Scraps are now strictly in the hands of secret suppliers.
Some people are paying extortionate prices to shady dealers in this new black economy. This is not good news for a city already blighted by crime.
Only this week, police raided a house on Spring Bank and confiscated 4 grams of 'golden' and 15 ounces of 'crispy brown'.
This is sad news for Hull's chip shop owners. This new scandal comes hot on the heels of the recent ban on another chip shop item unique to Hull - American Chip Spice.
Known as Hull's magic brown dust, American Chip Spice was a popular and tasty condiment in the chip shops.
But, after it was discovered to be more addictive than heroin, it was removed from Hull's chippies.
Now the chips of Hull are doomed only to be adorned with old-fashioned salt and vinegar.
Both these occurrences have struck fear into the hearts of chip shop owners and local people alike.
Many people are worried that a similar thing may happen to the most sacred item in Hull's chippies - the pattie.
Made from reconstituted skin flakes and unidentifiable green flecks, the pattie is a unique local delicacy.
Savoury, crispy and strangely addictive, some people feel it's only a matter of time before it suffers a similar fate.
This would be a big blow to the Hull chip shop economy. But you can help to defend and preserve this great Hull tradition.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
2. The French eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
3. The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heartattacks than the British or Americans.

Humour - Is it All Over for the Personal Ads? by Jane Foster
At one time, joining a dating agency or putting a personal ad in the paper was seen as the mark of desperation.
If anyone did do it, they seldom admitted it - unless they actually ended up meeting someone and staying with them. Then the details of how they met might leak out slowly..
But technology has changed the way people meet and interact, and one of the most common pastimes is..

Humour - When You Think About IT ...
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: "If GM had developed technology like Microsoft..

Music Reviews - The Landau's - Sweet But True (single/ DAGALOST Records) By Steve Rudd
Hull's something of a hotbed for cool indie-rock bands, and The Landau's - along with Still Life - are one of the freshest bands forging ahead within such a musical genre.
An exclusively laddish quartet, this is the young band's first major release, and has been recorded at the city's famous Fairview Studios.
The production qualities are fantastic,

Music Reviews - Pave - Linnet and Lark 05 February 2004 by Nick Quantrill
2004 hasn't been the greatest years so far. It kicked off more than adequately in the Old Town Square of Prague but went rapidly down hill from there.
Returning home I battled unsuccessfully against tonsillitis for a couple of weeks before slipping on the ice and breaking two fingers! Almost recovered, I decided to unleash myself upon Hull once again.
The return of 'The Sesh' at Linnet and Lark seemed as good any place...

Aircraft and Airshows - The Yorkshire Airshow - Elvington 2003 By Tony
What a pleasure to be here for 2 days (24th - 25th August)! We were fully entertained with a diverse mix of aircraft.
Both days of the flying program opened with the superb Red Arrows. Unfortunately, on the first day they had to abort their display for safety reasons when three light aircraft strayed in to the six mile display zone. Without doubt there must be an investigation into this misdemeanour and culprits brought to book.

Articles - Our Telephone Pole By Mo

Poking my head out of the window I asked "Can I take some pictures for the website?". "No problem came the reply" from Alan the team leader looking up from the base of the pole. Another story lands in my lap I thought, as I unloaded the battery charger and slipped the first rechargeable into our 150 quid Minolta digital camera.

Ibiza has long been known as the clubbing capital of the world. However, recent

£649 is a lot of money in most people's eyes. And to spend that much money on seven days away when
