A NEW WRITING FESTIVAL
With special guests John Godber, Stephen Jeffreys, Hull Truck's new writing group Blockheads and Emma Rugg
Saturday 15th November, from 10.00am
|
Hull Truck Theatre is set to play host to a hotbed of new writing and performance talent as part of the 2003 Humber Mouth Hull Literature Festival.
After forming only six months ago, Hull Truck's new writing group, BLOCKHEADS, will be showcasing their work as part of this all day entertainment event. Audiences will be the first to hear the brand new work from tomorrow's literary stars!
|
|
|
Theatregoers will be treated to an exclusive audience with two of Britain's greatest playwrights. There will be a presentation from Hull Truck's Artistic Director, JOHN GODBER and a workshop lead by STEPHEN JEFFREYS.
THE TEST TUBE THEATRE, a company committed to promoting new talent, will also be taking part in the event. They will be performing a collection of short pieces drawn from the work of respected playwrights including Pinter and Ionesco, along with new writing from Steven Hall, Jake Walker and many more.
|
|
If that's not enough, check out the FOYER FRINGE. This FREE entertainment will take place throughout the day and include a performance from Hull's latest singing sensation, EMMA RUGG, performance poetry from THE UPSIDE DOWN SHOW, a display of exciting artwork from local artists and much, much more. To top it off, free food will be provided in the foyer area.
|
|
With so much to see and take part in, this day is a must for aspiring writers and theatre lovers alike.
Previous nights have led to "standing-room only" so you are urged to arrive early. And heckle at your peril…
TICKETS FOR THE TALK WITH JOHN GODBER AND THE TEST TUBE THEATRE COST £5/4 EACH. ALL OTHER EVENTS ARE FREE. TO BOOK TICKETS, CALL THE BOX OFFICE ON 01482 323638.

By Maggie Hannan
Hull in Fiction: Christopher Peachment & Will Davenport
Following on from the Crap Towns debacle, my interest was caught by the fact that no fewer than three novelists have set novels in Hull in the past eighteen months. Just like buses, you wait for ages and then three come along at once.

As the mother of a son diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, she was inspired to write her latest novel Wild Boy after reading an account of a 'feral child' in Uta Frith's Autism: Explaining the Enigma.

By Maggie Hannan
'I grew up watching Doctor Who, hiding behind the sofa like so many others. He's had a good rest and now it's time to bring him back. The new series will be fun, exciting, contemporary and scary...' So says Russell T. Davies, famous for the controversial Queer as Folk, and Second Coming starring Christopher Ecclestone.

|
By Lee Cassanell
On Saturday morning I had the pleasure of interviewing Michael Gray, one of the world's leading Bob Dylan Experts.
It was quite an exciting moment for me, being a Dylan fan and all, and I suppose if I'd not had the mother of all hangovers due to the previous evenings merriment, I would have been more nervous then I was.

Poetry Is This Place Freedom?
|
|
By Nicholas Boldock
The roads stretch out ahead of me
To which town will they lead?
And will there be a lady there
With dark brown eyes and long blonde hair
Who'll let me love her if I dare
Own up to what I need.
