Dir. Joel Schumacher USA/Ireland 2003 1hr 30mins
A Powerful and emotional film, based on a true story, which provides a unique insight into a fascinating and complex aspect of an Irish conflict and is a poignant portrayal of a journalist who risked her life in search of the truth.
Guerin (Cate Blanchett) covered the crime beat in Dublin during the 1990's with unmatched intensity. It was a time when a few powerful drug lords battled for control and she was seen by many as their most fearsome opponent as she investigated and exposed 'the pushers', balancing her home life and family against her responsibility to her readers.

Two novelists discuss the role of the city of Hull in recent fiction. Christopher Peachment (The Green and the Gold) and Will Davenport (The Painter) have both recently published books which use the city as the backdrop to their fiction. Both novels feature fictional accounts of the life of Hull poet Andrew Marvell.
The authors will be in conversation with Local Studies Librarian David A. Smith, talking about how they researched their novels; the relationship between accuracy and imagination; their impressions of the city; the previous neglect of Hull by contemporary novelists.

Before Night Fell: Cassanidance
Live Art Space, Ferens Art Gallery - 7.30pm
£6/£4 Box Office: 01482 226655
|
An evening of breathtaking, original and risk-taking dance-theatre presented by Beth Cassani. Described as 'vivid and intoxicating' (Sunday Herald) and 'free spirited and exuberant' (The Times), Beth Cassani studied in London, New York and Amsterdam and has worked with repertory companies Adventures in Motion Pictures, DV8, Phoenix Dance Company, Ludus and Scottish Dance Theatre.
Wild Geese features three protagonists each on their own flight path but relentlessly distracted by each others bag of tricks.
|
|
Before Night Fell is a duet for two lost men who throw logs at each other in a dangerous and exhausting endgame of bravery and bravado.
Deepwater is an unnerving quartet - a game of tremendous risk as the stage becomes increasingly filled with precariously balanced wine bottles.
