Reviews, Theatre - Julius Caesar at Hull Truck Wednesday 10th November 04 By Nicholas Boldock
|
|
Predictably, Hull Truck dispenses with tradition for this pulsating performance
of one of Shakespeare's most ambitious plays. The differences between Godber's version
and Shakespeare's are glaring - an original cast of 51 is slashed to just 6 actors
(although most of them play multiple roles)

Reviews, Theatre - Confessions Of A Hull City Supporter at Hull Truck By Nick Quantrill
|
|
Written by Hull City fanatic, Alan Plater, and with male characters played by actors from Hull,
it would be easy to write this play off as being a parochial Fever Pitch.
Whilst it's definitely a home banker, the structure of the play holds enough laughs
to get a result away from home.

Reviews, Theatre - Up 'n' Under at Hull Truck Theatre with Cast Interview 23/07/2004 By Andy Dykes
|
|
John Godber's play 'Up 'n' Under' has enjoyed widespread success for twenty years.
So it's obvious that the story, although I have to admit I don't really know it,
does not need to be reviewed.
So I realise that if this report is going to be of any worth at all, tonight
I need to review the performance.

Reviews, Theatre - Up 'n' Under at Hull Truck Theatre By Nicholas Boldock
|
|
Once upon a time, there was a young boy called James Crossley. James liked to play sport and
did a lot of exercise. He bought himself some weights and trained hard until he became big and beefy.
When James grew up he grew his hair all silly so that he looked like a blond spaniel.
Then he became famous

Reviews, Theatre - Up 'n' Under with Talkback at Hull Truck Theatre By Elsie Creek
|
|
So, it's twenty years ago that John Godber showcased this, his first play for Spring Street Theatre,
for which he won the Laurence Olivier Comedy of the Year Award.
There has been a lot of water under the bridge since then, as we were reminded in
the post-show talkback with director and cast.
Both Hull Truck

Reviews, Theatre - Up n Under Hull Truck Theatre 17th July By Nick Quantrill
|
|
This special production of Up N Under is being staged to celebrate twenty years of
John Godber productions at Hull Truck.
As Godber's Olivier Award winner it's only right this should be the chosen play as well
as it being an opportunity to reclaim its reputation back after the sheer awfulness of the film it spawned.
It's truly

A near capacity audience at the Spring Street Theatre attended the twentieth anniversary performance

pulling power and appeal of his work.
There was an audible buzz of excitement among the crowd as we sat down to enjoy

Reviews, Theatre - Be My Baby at The Hull Truck Theatre Saturday 12th June By Cilla
|
|
I'm not a regular theatre goer. Not at all. It's like a different world to me. And frankly in
the past I'd say that overall I felt disappointment and (perhaps imagined) exclusion from that
scene. My sister could appreciate it, enjoy it even but I always thought of myself as not
the type to go

The Humber Mouth 2004 - Sufi Poetry and Music night at the EICH Gallery, 19th June by Michelle Dee

People were greeted by a thunderous drum call as they entered the performance space of the EICH gallery.
Oluseyi Ogunjobi, Fosuwa Andoh and a girl of barely ten brought the audience to attention, playing
pounding rhythms on African drums.
The night's proceedings were introduced by Toyen, resplendent in

Reviews, Theatre - ConPromise by Mal Williamson, Directed by Mathew Smith
EICH Gallery, Hull

By Michelle Dee
I shall start with no preamble but immerse you straight away very much the same way that the 30+ audience were.
Last Friday night at the EICH Gallery in Hull I was sat in the front row, watching and listening to the reading of ConPromise by Mal Williamson.
For the first 5 minutes I tried desperately to understand the ..

Reviews, Theatre - Emily Brontė's Wuthering Heights
|
|
Adapted by John Godber, Hull Truck Theatre 09/10/03
By E.M.X. Creek
I went to this production with some apprehension. I am not a huge Brontė fan, and in addition had some doubts as to how well Wuthering Heights would adapt for our modest location. I am happy to say that the result was remarkably good.
