Holidays
Simple Holiday Pleasures
by Mike

The time was 7.30 am and I was already awake. Liz stirred as I crept out of the caravan without waking Alex and Anna. From our elevated position overlooking the bay, the Med looked as calm as a millpond. The panoramic view was stunning as usual. Whilst in the awning, a swift change into my trunks and I was ready to start the day with my usual routine at Camp du Domaine.

I picked up my goggles and I sauntered off to the beach - a short walk of 50 metres. My body ached from the water ski the previous day. My head was groggy from too much wine the previous night. I felt every one of my 44 years. The freshly combed beach was cool on my feet as I left my tracks in the sand- the only ones there except for a few early morning swimmers.

I waded into the sea and as the water caressed me with its silky warm softness that didn't even take my breath away, I felt free once again. I swam out to the first buoy as the early morning sun reflected off the still water. Before long I settled into a languid front crawl and my breathing settled into a routine. I marvelled at the impossibly clear water, and the shoals of fish going about their business beneath me.

The sea floor undulated and changed with every stroke from rocks to a carpet of sand and back again. I was now in the groove and before long I had swam the bay and turned round at the last buoy. I could now hear the distant sounds of the ski-boat starting its first run of the day. By now I was coming alive and speeding up a bit. My breathing getting a bit more laboured as I swam the return leg.

Twenty minutes after my first stroke, I passed the last buoy on the return leg and raced for the shore. I emerged from the water and, as I felt the warming sun on my back, I was invigorated at having conquered the water once again. All my aches and pains had disappeared, my hangover was now clear and I felt like 24. Fan-tas-tic!

I hurried back to our emplacement, picked up a few Euros and bought a baguette and four croissants at the local store, a short bike ride away. By the time I returned, everyone was up and freshly brewed coffee was poured.

There is nothing quite like an early morning swim to start the day. Back home, I don't wake up early and I don't swim. It's just not the same.

Holidays - Ibiza, The World Keeps Gurning By Andi
Ibiza has long been known as the clubbing capital of the world. However, recent years have seen the development of resorts such as Ayai Nappa in Cyprus and Faliraki in Rhodes. This has lead to a fairly wide-spread belief that Ibiza is dying it's death. Read more...

Holidays - Al's Trip To Croatia By Allen Miles

So off we went. On arrival at Ruzyne airport, my main worry was that our taxi driver would not be there. For some reason this was the thing I was most concerned about. My fears were unfounded. Read more...

Holidays - Cyprus by Petra
One dismal Monday afternoon I was sitting in the pub with my neighbour David, bemoaning the weather and feeling miserable, when David uttered the immortal words "let's go on holiday". Quicker than you can say " Linford Christie" we were at the travel agents choosing our destination. Read more...

MY visit to Hull last weekend was a blast. I came, I hugged, I drank and I lost my mobile phone in The Piper. The phone's since been returned to me. Music Reviews - Turismo, Hull Adelphi, 29th September by Albert Dukes.
Being a member of Turismo must make for a busy life; What with running what is easily the best looking and informative website of Hull's bands, giving seemingly endless interviews and press releases to the Hull Daily Mail - they're also the most written about band in the locality, too. Add to that the fact that they've recently lost a guitarist/vocalist and have introduced a fair bit of new material in their live set Read more...

Articles - Is Hull really No.1 Crap Town?
By Jane Foster
As you may have seen in the media, Hull has been voted top of the list of the 50 crappest towns to live in, within the UK.
If I may point out from the beginning, without being pedantic, that Hull is not a town but a city - therefore it is not eligible for this title anyway. But for the sake of argument I'll carry on.
