Grass Roots main event Sunday 25th August 2003
By Mo

|
To say Sunday's event was an incredible success, in more ways than one, would be no exaggeration to the thousands of attendees from every cultural group in Hull who experienced a day of musical delights delivered by Grass Roots.
For me, it felt like Central Park, Manhattan, an air of optimism, people from all races mixing together freely, enjoying the wonderful festival.

|
|
I arrived at the main stage arena in time to be invited in by Phil the Stage Manager to take some shots of Mug Punter who had just taken the stage.
Pearson Park was starting to fill with people attracted to the energy of the band like bees to honey.
So I got my www.thisisUll.com digital camera out and crawled into the back stage area popping up to take a snap,

With so much going on in the park, beyond the main area was the Full Flava Marquee, I had to get over there and see the third co-founder of Grass Roots, Dave, in action.
Check out Full Flava photos here.

Back to the main arena to catch Pave, and boy was I glad, they have a terrific sound and I'm sure will succeed.

Another pairing from Kurdistan and Morocco gave Grass Roots music a middle eastern flavour, saving the day. The violinist from Gul Naz, Nahro Zagros and the drummer from Maghribibeat provided an impromptu session when another performer broke down on the motorway and was unable to make their slot.

It wasn't just music going on but all sorts of activities across pearson park all part of the Grass Roots day.
Suzanne, dancing with the poi, demonstrates to children, she's also an author for www.thisisUll.com!

The Gul Naz performance drew in a huge crowd joining in with local Kurdistan dancing adding to the festival atmosphere.

Jesse Malin - York Fibbers 10/07/04 By Nick Quantrill
|
|
I have to admit it, I'm biased. Jesse Malin rules and I won't have a
word said against him.
Like most people I discovered Jesse's music through his association with
Ryan Adams.
After numerous years plodding along with quite frankly,
bad to mediocre punk bands, best mate Ryan produced and provided

Blind Frog Ernie at The Cavern - Saturday 3rd July By Andy Steele
|
|
Blind Frog Ernie, in their current guise, were supposed to make their Cavern
debut some months ago but had to cancel at the last minute due to illness.
Tonight it was clear from the off that they were determined to banish the memory of that
missed opportunity and give the place a proper rocking, East-coast style.

Interviews - Robert Needham Sculptor
|
|
That's when I met Robert Needham. My first impression was that maybe he was a member of the clergy, presenting me with a warm smile and outstretched hand,
smartly dressed, little thin maybe, definitely an interesting looking character.

News - Home and Gardens?....No...This IS Hull.
|
|
After a long time out of Hull I bumped into a friend who has lived in Edinburgh Street
for twenty years. "Tell me about Little Beirut," I said. "What's it like living at the
epicentre of west hull's Council-sponsored landgrab?"
