Yankeeburger - Hessle Road, Hull
By Nick Quantrill
Hull undoubtedly has many fine places to eat and enjoy different styles of food in pleasant surroundings.
When we cut away the often pretentious warbling about contrasting flavours, smells and colours though, I'm sure most of us enjoy nothing more than an uncomplicated burger of some description.
If, like me, you're just that little too sick of Jamie Oliver (or more likely, ready to commit bodily harm upon him and his ilk) then you should try Yankeeburger.
Based off the beaten track on Hessle Road, you can't miss the place as it has a sports car situated on the roof.
If like me, you think that's rather cool, it gets better inside. Once you set foot inside the place you are transported back to a 1950s American diner.
The décor is just right, plastic furniture, framed pictures of rock 'n' rollers, jukeboxes and erm…petrol pumps.
The only area in which Yankeeburger occasionally falls down (and I know I may be being a little anally retentive here) is in the inappropriately played music.
Although I want to hear Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard etc when I enter a 1950s diner, I'm prepared to compromise.
What I'm not prepared to accept is U2 and Bob Marley; it's just plain wrong!
The food though is superb; you won't need to eat for a week after tackling a burger here.
For the meat eaters, there is practically every kind of burger you could wish for served with a pile of fries and enough salad to convince you it's healthy eating!
For the vegetarian, I'm reliably informed they produce 'the best veggie burgers ever' with the veggie dippers being no slouches either.
For the truly brave out there, there are deserts available but it takes a braver man than me to attempt eat one after eating a main course. I can though, thoroughly recommend the milkshakes (made with ice cream) and onion rings, though not together.
The final treat is when you approach the till to pay for your food. By the side of the till is a jar of free mint imperials. I can often be found sporting coats with very deep pockets as I stagger back to my car manically cackling about the number of mints I have on my person!
One of Hull's best-kept secrets.

Moving further up Spring Bank I recently frequented Pizza Planet - a

Driving - Jo's DRIVING LESSONS
Here I was living alone with my 3 children, my husband having just left us to cope alone. My eldest daughter, only just 18, was keen to learn to drive and I didn't want to spend a fortune on driving lessons, at least not until she could learn as much as she could from me.

Going Down - An EveningWith The Dark Poet - Bill Hicks Anniversary Tribute At the Adelphi By Rich Mills
It seems strange to be doing a review of Bill Hicks ten years after his death from pancreatic cancer. On 26th of February 1994, the world became a darker place.
However, a legacy of words that has resonated across the years, shows that the man who described himself as a dark poet was a shining light.
A genius with a razor sharp wit, who never compromised, and only spoke the truth!

Going Down - Hit And Run Poetry By Rich Mills
Well the Renegades have been at it again. Sunday night, as the rest of the world took in the news of Saddam's capture, the Renegade Writers stormed the Jaz Bar in Lowgate, Hull. Now feelings would be mixed, I'm sure, as to whether they went down a storm or like a lead balloon. One thing is for certain - the quiet Sunday audience were not prepared for the Renegades onslaught.

Interviews - Faith & Football: Stuart Elliott speaks.
by Nicholas Boldock
Having heard Elliott interviewed a number of times on Radio Humberside (usually post-match, having scored yet another spectacular headed goal), I knew he would be an articulate and engaging speaker on any subject, even one I would not ordinarily be interested in. And do you know what? He didn't disappoint.
