Food Reviews
Pizza Planet Plummets!
by Petra
As an amateur connoisseur of food I have died and gone to heaven by becoming the food and drink critic for www.thisisUll.com I want to give an honest view of eateries in Hull and let you know the worst and the best.

So I devised a cunning plan. Top places to nosh get a big fork up from me (ooooer) and those which are sadly lacking in quality and service get a big fork down.

Moving further up Spring Bank I recently frequented Pizza Planet - a Pizza/Kebab/Burger/Fried Chicken etc etc take-away. Top Tip- I shouldn't have bothered. My cheeseburger was bland to say the least - the succulent tasting stick certainly wasn't hitting Pizza Planet that night. The Bloke had an "omelette"- beware! I use this term very loosely. An oddly coloured, weirdly textured gastronomic no no appeared before his disappointed (yet strangely alluring) eyes.

Again it would have been stretching the English language to define the taste. Sodden cardboard having been dipped in a muddy autumnal puddle then semi-digested by a group of roaming antelopes would be a more accurate description.

However despair not!! The doorknobs were very nice.

Meanwhile we await with hungry anticipation the opening of the large new Chinese in the centre of town (sorry - can't remember the name). The opening night is Friday 27th June. I shall be partaking in their (I'm feeling optimistic) culinary delights on the 28th with my offspring, minus the Bloke. (Never mix children and animals - another Top Tip). I have high hopes for this venture and shall report back as quick as you can say stuff my olive.

Sports - Take Me to the River - Carp Anglers by Mo
I am an amateur angler, mostly river fishing as a youth at a time when televisions were black and white. I was 14 maybe, I had my own rods (3) and tackle, a selection of floats, some ledger weights, hooks and line, all kept in our shed alongside my recent purchase of maggots. I always took great pleasure in seeing my four sisters scream and run at the sight of these little yellow .. Read more...

Poetry - AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS.. By Ken Hartford
If I admit responsibility
For the life that comes my way,
Then I feel I own my body,
But that is just to say
I take my responsibility
For giving it some care
And that might apply to everyone
And to everything everywhere. Read more...

Poetry - Spirit of Woody Guthrie
By Patrick Henry
These voices rising to a tremulous high C.,
Sad as a song created by old Woody G.,
Who long searched the home of the brave for the land of the free,
But found it's only left deep inside you and me.

Opinions - Life is too Short By The Lazyswede
I sat on the quiet banks of the river watching the early morning mist twist and swirl while the water meandered slowly into the distance, listening to the far off sounds of the city as the people made their way to work Car horns blowing and the sound of voices carrying on the gentle breeze. Yet although so close, I could Read more...

Opinions - Blame By Darren Sant
I didn't say you were to blame, I said I'm blaming you. I am getting heartily sick of the blame culture we live in these days. Something goes wrong in the hospital, we sue. The dentist pulls out the wrong tooth, we sue. Admittedly we are not as bad as Americans yet, thank god, but Read more...
