There were so many highlights to the day it is impossible to mention them all here. Just a few still linger tantalizingly on the palette and in the memory.

The Luxury Chocolate Creations stand from Tockwith had a plethora of delicious sweets on show including chocolates in the shape of hand tools that neither of us had seen for many a year.
To bring the world of confectionery into the modern era they even had chocolate mobile phones in milk and white chocolate varieties; more reliable and far more satisfying than B.T.
The Chesters stall proved surprisingly popular; they had award winning scented candles on display. Chesters of Harrogate have been voted the best in the country, beating off all the competition. The eye-catching candles burn evenly inside their metal tins for over fifty hours.

They are safe to use in any room in the house and smell good enough to eat.
With scents, like lavender and jasmine to more exotic ones like mango many a pleasant moment was spent smelling them. I kept going back until I'd sniffed the lot.

At the Splash Wines stand from Holmfirth there was a cornucopia of wines on offer; concocted from the finest English fruits including Elderflower and Elderberry. The latter was sweet, potent and fruity. It were right nice. For the teetotallers there was non-alcoholic punch from The Punch Brew Company, St. Helens. The stallholder was almost evangelical spreading the message of it's many curative properties.
It has to be said, one of the best things about the day was the atmosphere created by the traders. Every one of them were warm-spirited, friendly and generous. I was lucky enough to be given a fine jar of Picklin Rics, Tipsy Apricots in cognac syrup by Picklin' Ric himself. They are a cottage industry based on Lamplugh Road in Bridlington, they make some of the best preserves in Yorkshire; that have graced tables across the world.
Finally the most delicious; the five star award winner, of all the produce sampled that day goes to the ginger sponge pudding at the Just Puds stall, from Memerby, Ripon.

The warm sponge was melt in the mouth; the syrupy ginger, rich and flavoursome. We both agreed it really was gorgeous; worth visiting the event just for that exquisite experience alone.
The result of visiting this event has wetted our appetite for all things Yorkshire. We plan to visit Driffield Farmer's market; held on the first Saturday of the month to sample more of the same. Also a trip to Masham, to visit the Blacksheep Brewery is definitely in order.

The importance of events such as these is that they raise awareness of the hundreds of small businesses producing quality goods locally.
By supporting traditional farm shops and markets at a roots level, we can enrich our lives and help to sustain our proud Yorkshire heritage.
