The White Horse, Carr Lane, Hull
By Carolyn
|
|
Eating in the city centre can be a daunting task as there are many public houses, all
boasting of their fine cuisine and relaxed atmospheres.
In reality there aren't that many that pull it off.
Either their food is mass produced ready meals at two for a fiver- ok if you want
no frills and are really a bit unimaginative.
|
|
|
And then their so-called relaxed atmosphere is a nicotine stained wall with
pictures of Hull in the 1800's- nothing wrong with that if you like a bit
of nostalgia and your grandparents are visiting.
|
|
If you want something a little more modern and not too alternative, with a
good choice of traditional, home made fare, nibbles, burgers, wraps and a little
bit for the more adventurous pub lunch lover , the White Horse
could well be for you.
Situated opposite Alders in the city centre The White Horse boasts
a spacious summer courtyard, a light and airy interior and a few cosy couches
to get you all ready for some fantastic food!
|
|
Emma, head chef of the White Horse prepares and cooks most of the
dishes herself. A lot are home made, and also nearly all of the extras including
coleslaw, chilli dips, soups and pates.
|
My menu has included some of the more traditional food like a bangers and mash and
scampi, but I have tried to incorporate a more of a continental selection of
main meals including mushroom stroganoff and chicken satay skewers.
There is a specials menu which changes daily too. .
The menu also boasts (and it should do, too) a beasty steak selection including
combos and a good choice of vegetarian meals too.
After eating with my daughter there on mothers' day I felt that this place
deserves a thumbs' up from both of us.
|
|
|
Children are welcomed throughout the day so if you find yourself at a loss
over half term after visiting every museum and gallery or trawling around
endless shops, you will be welcomed up to 8p.m with the little ones.
It's not only for the family though, many customers come in from the surrounding
offices and shops.
|
|
All meals are half price too, from the meat feast section of the menu between
3-6 p.m Tuesday thru Friday and there is a varying menu of Sunday roasts
served between 12-4.30 p.m on a Sunday.
You can check out the emenu too on
e.menu@whitehorse.karoo.co.uk

|
Food is served from Tuesday to Saturday 12pm - 6pm and Sunday 12pm - 4.30pm.
