Lucky Star Chinese Takeaway, Holderness Road, Hull
By Matthew Ward Age 15
|
The takeaway we chose was Lucky Star Chinese Takeaway on Holderness Road.
We ordered set meal c for 4 people which consisted of:
|
|
|
-
Spare ribs big
-
Beef satay
-
Mixed vegetable curry
-
Chicken mushroom
-
Garlic king prawn
-
Prawn crackers
-
Rice and chips
-
Seaweed
-
Free fortune cookies
|
|
|
Here's what I thought of the meal ...
|
Spare ribs - Plenty of ribs, great amount of sauce on them, enjoyed them a lot.
Beef satay - Beef was slightly chewy, not soft enough, but very nice.
Mixed vegetable curry - Vegetables were excellent! Cooked perfectly and weren't too soft.
|
|
|
Chicken mushroom - Chicken was very nice and the sauce was great.
Garlic king prawn - Prawns were okay, slightly tasteless but still acceptable.
Prawn crackers - Great prawn crackers. Melt in your mouth.
|
Rice and chips - Rice was good, not too soggy, and the chips were average.
Seaweed - VERY NICE! Crisped to perfection, but quite salty.
Free fortune cookies - FREE! But the fortunes were jokes not fortunes : (

Overall it was one of the best Chinese takeaways I have ever had and I strongly recommend it to anyone who lives in the area. It has a restaurant next-door called New World where you can eat the food inside if you don't want to take it out.
Takeaway Rating - 9/10

Food and Drink - The Nest Café, Princes Avenue By Fiona Carr
|
|
Dropping something off at a friend's one morning I finally decided to try the 'little sister'
to the Boar's Nest and have a breakfast.
Long an admirer of this building when it was a butchers, I had taken an interest in the conversion but never got around to eating there.
The full breakfast was ordered and a cup of herbal tea. Despite the weather I decided to sit outside,

Food and Drink - Sleepers Bar, Newland Avenue By Fiona Carr
|
|
Recently under new ownership this has gone from a shaky start as one of the first
cafe bars on Newland, rather than the already chi chi Princes Ave, to an
established favourite for the discerning.
On a whim, my somewhat dizzy companion and I just turned up for a mulled wine.
It was buzzing with a loud but not aggressively so level

I have just visited Newland Fisheries. It was fantastic, the fish is white, the
batter is light and crispy, the chips are tasty. Definitely the best on Newland

Offering traditional African food, all fresh and mostly organic, this restaurant has got a brilliant corner of the eating-out market as it is the only one of its kind in Hull. Food and Drink - Revolution Reviewed by Matthew Wilson

After seeing the 15 minute promise posters in the window of Revolution every day for a couple of weeks, I decided to go in and put them to the test. The deal is, if your food takes longer than 15 minutes from when you order to when it appears on your table, you get it for free. So upon entering, my wife and I were told by a friendly young lady to take a seat.
She came

Food and Drink - Restaurant Reviews - ASK Warehouse, Princes Dock Street, Hull By Jill Turner

Date 25th November. Party of 14. Table for 8pm.
When we turned up it was very busy.
Our table had been put in the corner next to the cooking area.
We did not have enough tables, I had to sit on the corner of a table and eat my starter.
It was not until I spoke to the Manager that they increased our tables by 1.
He told me; all you had to do was ASK!
Because we were a large number
