A Man with Two Horses
By Lazyswede
I met a man today that had two horses, but he could not get the horses to go the way he wanted them to. The gray mare wanted to take the footpath to the left and the old chestnut mare wanted to take the footpath to the right, while the man wanted to go back the way he came because he knew he would be late for his dinner if he took either of the other two paths.
So he quite simply made up his mind and released the reins and let the two horses go their separate ways. On the way back home farmer brown stopped the man and farmer brown said where are your horses, the man told him what had happened and that he could not find the strength to make them do as he wished.
The farmer said that this reminded him of two brothers he knew who could never agree on anything at all. The older of the brothers was an upstanding citizen who didn't drink, did'nt smoke'did'nt swear and always went to church on Sundays.
The younger brother was a man of the world who lived each day as it came and he drank, smoked, swore and hated anything that had to do with religion. Eventually they could not stand each other and both went their separate ways.
Their father now was a modest hard working man and he had been brought up to believe that there is nothing wrong in having the occasional drink or cigarette as long as it was in moderation, and occasionally he would damn the whole world, but that he should atone for what he had done by going to church each Sunday.
Eventually when then day came that their father passed away the brothers were informed and they both turned up at the house, and for many hours they just stared at each other from across the room and you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. Then out of the blue, the vicar stood up and said, "Damn and blast it, I can't take this anymore.
Both the brothers looked at each other because neither could believe what had come from vicar's mouth.
The vicar said you are both as stubborn as each other and have learned nothing after all these years about life. Have you not yet realized that everyone in this world is different!!!!
But if we were all the same we would still find something to argue about, but it would be about the same things because everyone would have exactly the same likes and dislikes so the world would still not be as perfect as we would wish it to be?
We have to learn to accept each person that passes through our daily lives, even if we feel they are right or wrong!!!! Everyone has the courage to rise above these differences and keep their heads held high, and we will learn to accept the way life is and make of it what we will. And if we take separate paths along our journeys then there is no need to worry because we will find that eventually all paths lead back to where we started!

Fiction - Halloween - One For The Road

by Nicholas Boldock
Jason Travis tip-tapped the steering wheel in time to the music blaring from the car's speakers. He glanced at the digital clock on the dashboard - 16:53. The sky was darkening, even at this early summer hour, not as a result of the setting sun but brought about by the lumbering grey rain clouds overhead.

Fiction - Telling Lies by Nicholas Boldock
At half past five Harry arranged all the papers on his desk into neat piles, as he always did before going home. He shoved his pens into the blue plastic desk tidy and shut down his PC. He performed this same ritual every evening, did it automatically, even unconsciously. He felt overjoyed to be finally going home - the days seemed to be getting longer and longer and longer - even though home, to Harry, was only marginally more bearable than work.

Music Reviews - Pave - Linnet and Lark 05 February 2004 by Nick Quantrill
2004 hasn't been the greatest years so far. It kicked off more than adequately in the Old Town Square of Prague but went rapidly down hill from there.
Returning home I battled unsuccessfully against tonsillitis for a couple of weeks before slipping on the ice and breaking two fingers! Almost recovered, I decided to unleash myself upon Hull once again.
The return of 'The Sesh' at Linnet and Lark seemed as good any place...

Me & Jimbob out with the hound dog walking through them woods
Didn't see no sign of turkey all the time
Just a possum and a skunk
Then we heard a rustling in the pine trees
Thought our luck had changed
To our surprise before our eyes
A grizzly a running came ..

This week's match produced a bounty of goals for both sides along with a fair share of controversy and terrific spirited action.
I met up with the Hassag Lions lads as usual in Pearson Park at 10 am, to be given the news that a Hull Daily Mail journalist and photographer were due to come along and write a piece on them.
