It is 5am, I am with three proud members of thisisUll.com, sitting back
and reflecting on eight hours of music.
I have to break myself from conversation in order to put together my own thoughts of this magical event.
In the background of the room I can hear enthusiastic, positive and honest tales of a successful evening;
but in my mind this evening was a swirl and a blur of kindness.
|
|
|
The night seemed to fly by, not through alcohol, but through awe.
Awe that people of this area, young and old, have the generosity to provide for the people affected
by Boxing Day's tragic events.
To the people lost, discouraged, saddened and overcome by tragedy, the people of Hull did their bit to help.
|
|
Through music and giving, we have reacted powerfully and done it!
The money raised is just a small amount to help create a better life for the survivors, but it
has played a big part in the lives of the people in the local area.
To these people in the local area, we give a big thank you, to everyone who helped with Tuesday's event,
and anyone who has provided, donated and given, Thank you! Every band,
every member of the audience and in particular the organisers, of this superb benefit show.
|
Hull's community has managed to prove to the country that it is not the butt of all jokes, and the
money raised this evening proves this.
Profit is usually seen as a vile, greedy and dishonest act, but the evening has changed
the reputation of big bucks. It has proved that profit and money can make a difference.
|
|
|
The same applies to music and the media; music can make fake idols and record companies rub their
hands with greed and at some point the majority of independent musicians have shunned this.
What goes hand in hand with this belief is that the media too is seen as a force of both control
and manipulation.
But Tuesday's fundraiser proves both mediums have shown their abilities to improve the lives of the
victims of the Asian Tsunami disaster.
|
|
Through the website (thisisUll.com), the BBC, The Sesh
and through the music
it has been possible to convince the people of Hull to dig deep and aid those in need.
|
Three rooms packed and two buses full of people has put a Tuesday evening into Hull's history.
To everyone (you know who you are) audience, bands, organisers, young, old, rich and poor and
the giving, it is through you that the Asian disaster victims can use the funds raised
to improve their own lives.
A brilliant night all organised within one week, fantastic! Do your bit!

People - An Evening with Michael Palin at The Institute of Education in London By Steve Rudd
|
|
To say that Michael Palin is one of my all-time heroes is one hell of a serious understatement.
Ever since I saw his epic TV travels in the form of Around The World in 80 Days and Pole To Pole
I have been totally captivated by everything he does and says.

Band Interviews - Sweet n Sour at the Welly Club 22/07/2004 Mad Action Interview By Andy Dykes
|
|
After the show I go backstage. Admittedly it's partly to use the toilet, but also to catch up
with the bands, particularly Mad Action, with whom an interview has been arranged.
The lead singer and guitarist/backing-vocalist from Kasabian are immediately welcoming,
allowing me to use their toilet without fear of violence or harassment.
