Martin Deane invited me along with 2 full coach loads of people from Hull to the Make Poverty History Demonstration in Edinburgh on the 2nd July 2005. It was an early start, 6am, because we had a long 6 hour trip up to Scotland (and another 6 hours back which I tried to forget) as we hopped aboard that drizzly morning.

I'd packed my sandwiches, water etc and had a flask of hot coffee and I set out for Debenham's the pick up point. I've never been politically active enough to go to any demonstration in the past, but I had a job to do cameras at the ready batteries all fully charged.

I lost our group as soon as we disembarked and made my way following the crowds to the Rally meeting point. On entering this enormous park I started to feel the impact of being part of such a large crowd. Each with their own banners groups of demonstrators lined up and it felt like some kind of army taking their positions in this massive open space.

I went to work and captured as much of the day as I could on camera for us to share online. If you came with us or were there please do write in and share your thoughts about this incredible day.
