Graham led the group down to the lower level once more, back into the men's dormitory for some experimentation with a psychic phenomenon known as "transfiguring". This is where the spiritual medium will "offer their facial features to a spirit" and temporarily allow the spirit's own face to be seen in theirs.
With only a small torch illuminating the scene, and with the torch beam moving around, after a few minutes accustomising to the darkness it was easy to "see" the face of another person taking shape over Graham's own features, but induced by imagination, not by any paranormal means, at least for my part.
|
|
|
One or two others said they definitely saw the distinctly different features of a man appear in front of Graham's face, not unlike a protruding mask. They also described the materialisation of the face of a woman, and the face of an old man, later on in the session.
|
|
Naomi - the girlfriend of the young chap who had received such a fright in the medical centre - decided to accept Graham's next challenge and remain alone in the darkened dormitory after the group moved on. She sat on the floor beside the first of the bunks and beckoned the spirits in the customary fashion ("is there anybody there?"), and she didn't have long to wait for a response.
Within a few minutes she saw two consecutive flashes of light in front of her, not unlike the flash of a camera (though se was alone without a camera of her own). She suddenly became extremely cold and felt a grip tightening around her neck, to the extent that she couldn't call out. Gasping for breath she quickly left the room and rejoined some of the group out in the corridor. There were some vicious red marks around her neck that hadn't been there five minutes before, and Mo was on-hand to photograph them.
I interviewed Naomi an hour or so after her ordeal; she told me that she had approached the evening as a sceptic but following her personal experience and that of her boyfriend, she had completely reversed her attitude towards the paranormal.
|
By this time I was anxious to experience something paranormal first-hand before the end of the night, and volunteered myself for Graham's next "solo challenge" - to sit alone in the entrance tunnel.
With a night-vision video camera covering my movements, the crew left me at the lower end of the tunnel. It wasn't totally dark, there were green footlights every 25 yards or so, and I opened a can of Red Bull and started chatting to any spirits that would listen! I had learnt in earlier sessions that it is advisable to call reassuringly and respectfully, expressing a genuine interest in communicating. The 20 minute stay was uneventful, apart from a visit from Mo with his digital camera, but the next day when we uploaded the photo that he took of me in the tunnel - we were amazed! You can clearly see several "orbs" floating above and around me.
|
|
|
I would like to add that I could have stayed longer but the video camera battery had ran completely flat after just 20 minutes - they are normally expected to give three or more hours of continuous service when fully-charged (as it had been when I started at 4am).

This is the first article I've ever written for thisisUll.com.
Even though I've logged on regularly for the past year or so, and I follow the local music
scene avidly, I've never been moved to put pen to paper. Until now.
About six months ago, I wandered down to The Sesh

Saturday 12th March 05 - Soulflame at the White Room By Michelle Dee

Soulflame have strong Puddle of Mudd influences in both sound and song construction.
The E.P. is more melodic and measured than the live performance.
Nic's vocals are at times quite balladic. He reaches for the high notes with a fresh

Why the hell do I do these things, it's not to get my skirt pulled up by some drunken goat
called Mark that's for sure.
If this had been in an office and not a nightclub then I would have you up for sexual
harassment make no mistake. Did I see you go around lifting up other girls' apparel?

Its rock-a-rama at Asylum: tonight. Three bands, one bill, all about the rock.
First up, Disarm:.
Their cover of New Order's Blue Monday is superb, harking back to Marilyn Manson
and Dope's covers of new romantic greats.
Disarm:'s own material is intricate

It's cold tonight, not as cold as it was this morning, but cold enough to complain about.
The garish decoration of The Ringside makes a welcome change from the browns and greys of a city thawing out.
The outside door, as per usual, scares the crap out of me as it slams shut
