I was quietly impressed when Graham, Ellen, and Gill (a fellow guest, who had previously had tendencies towards mediumship) each independently drew the group's attention to a harmless (more commonly called "benign") and friendly spirit of a man, who had adopted a spot in the corridor beside a fire door.

I took a few photos from various angles and made a mental note to return to investigate this area later on in the night. I should have taken a physical note instead because I forgot all about it!

Just along the corridor from the "benign spirit" was the medical centre.
Perhaps over the years the walls of this small room had soaked up the distraught emotions of injured personnel? Our group marched through but I stayed a minute or so longer, taking in the eerie atmosphere, trying to imagine the traumatic sights that the past fifty years must have witnessed within these walls.

It was then that I realised I wanted more than just a story from the evening, I wanted proof that something paranormal was going on here.
Fellow guest Gill was demonstrating more than just sensitivity to the paranormal, in fact she gave an account of a man whose last moments on earth had been within the bunker installation.

He had died of a heart-attack and was now, from his place in the spirit world, expressing to Gill his displeasure at the undignified way his body had been taken away from Holmpton. James Fox- our official guide - confirmed that such a death had actually taken place there in the past, and that a maintenance crane had been used to lift the man's body up the stairwell to the waiting RAF ambulance.
I placed my digital voice recorder on the bed in the medical centre, switched it on to record, and closed the door. At this stage I was too pensive to contemplate staying alone in that particular room.

In some way it reminded me of the night when I was at the British Aerospace social club in Brough when I witnessed a man die from a heart attack.

The tour moved on and into the male dormitory on the lower floor.
This was an unusual room in that it not only housed some thirty bunk beds but also an enormous fresh water tank. Upon entering the room, Ellen was immediately able to announce that a presence called "Ray" was evident to her.

And Graham said that he could see the crouched figure of a man on the bunk bed in the far corner, giving the name "Charlie Peckett" (unconfirmed spelling). The group remained in this room for some time in silence with the lights off, hoping to witness some form of manifestation, encouraged by gentle coaxing from Graham.
I retrieved my voice recorder from the medical centre and listened to the 30 minute recording during a scheduled break. Disappointingly, though, I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.

Going Down - Rain Didn't Stop Voices In Play By Rich Mills
I awoke this morning to a miserable day. Quite depressing after all the glorious sun we've had lately. More so because today was to be a large out-door event organised by community activists Voices In Play. It's A Community Knockout, supposed to be held at Princess Read more...

Going Down - An EveningWith The Dark Poet - Bill Hicks Anniversary Tribute At the Adelphi By Rich Mills
It seems strange to be doing a review of Bill Hicks ten years after his death from pancreatic cancer. On 26th of February 1994, the world became a darker place. However, a legacy of words that has resonated across the years, shows that the man who described himself as a dark poet was a shining light. A genius with a razor sharp wit, who never compromised, and only spoke the truth! Read more...

Going Down - Hit And Run Poetry By Rich Mills
Well the Renegades have been at it again. Sunday night, as the rest of the world took in the news of Saddam's capture, the Renegade Writers stormed the Jaz Bar in Lowgate, Hull. Now feelings would be mixed, I'm sure, as to whether they went down a storm or like a lead balloon. One thing is for certain - the quiet Sunday audience were not prepared for the Renegades onslaught.

Going Down - Got to pick a Poet or Two by Mo.
Last night I accompanied Jane from the Renegade writers to Nellies Pub in Beverley to what turned out to be a terrific night of competitive poetry readings. Ten years ago I'd be ribbed and teased. My mates would have said "you're going soft" to have spent the evening in front of a roaring fire listening to poetry in one of the oldest pubs in England. . Read more...
