Going Down
Abseiling for Charity continued

I was by this time quite scared and even more so when I realised I had to shuffle my feet down off the edge onto a narrow steel plate running just beneath the walkway. It was then that my foot slipped as I struggled for grip on the flat surface. My heart was pounding as I finally managed to plant both feet on the steel plate.
Seconds later I felt the harness bear the full extent of my weight and my feet left the side of the bridge and I swung underneath. With my feet now pointing to the ground I let the belay rope slide through my hands. By loosening and tightening my grip I could control the speed of the descent.

Now I was having fun, too soon I was almost half way down. I paused for photographs (as you do) then continued to descend at quite a rate.
Metres from the ground I slowed myself down then came to earth gently bending my legs as my boots touched terra firma. It was over. I had done it. I wanted to go again.
My friends and family greeted me once I had cleared the landing area. Many thanks to Mo, Cilla, Elsie and Jane for their amazing support and to my own family who came out to cheer me on as well.

More thanks go to RNIB who held a well-organised event and made sure 350 abseilers reached the ground safely.

This was an absolutely thrilling experience that has planted something of a seed in me. Now, I am not turning into a crazy adrenaline junkie but I wouldn't mind doing a sky dive next…if anyone knows how I can make this desire a reality don't hesitate to contact me on michelle@thisisull.com
Many thanks to the following who lent their support to this venture

Going Down - Malarky Returns to Glastonbury 2004
This year I returned to that ever so laaaarrrrgggggeeee festival. Some call it gluttony, some Glastonbury. Arriving a day early meant the ground was dry when I put up tent. Rain, then wind, then sun, then rain. Sun, heavy rain, then it pissed it down again..........another washout at Glasto, surely not? Read more...

Going Down - World Music Day at Queens Gardens Saturday 19th June By Jane Foster
I'd been praying that the rain would hold off for this very special event at Queens Gardens. Luckily it did for most of the day, and with bands from as far afield as Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, we all ended up dancing our little socks off.. The day was organised by Chris Smith at the Warren centre, and hats off to him for putting on a great event Read more...

Going Down - Cannabis March to smoky bears picnic in Pearson Park By Carl Wagner
The bullying nature of the so called war on drugs makes it difficult for many people to even voice an opinion on cannabis, so well done to the 100 or so that turned up for the 4th annual cannabis protest march. The march left Queens Gardens at 1.00 pm with a police escort, and noisily worked its' way through the city centre Read more...

Going Down - Rain Didn't Stop Voices In Play By Rich Mills
I awoke this morning to a miserable day. Quite depressing after all the glorious sun we've had lately. More so because today was to be a large out-door event organised by community activists Voices In Play. It's A Community Knockout, supposed to be held at Princess Read more...

Aircraft and Airshows - Waddington International Airshow - June 26th and 27th 2004 By Tony
I travelled to the Airshow with trepidation, as the weather forecast was for cloud and rain and the prospect of no flying loomed large. But here we are and all worries regarding the forecast were forgotten as I entered this hive of activity. As all aircraft/Airshow enthusiasts know, the noise and smell of fuel excites the senses and one hurries Read more...
