I took my leave of them and bumped into one of the live music co-ordinators Martin Davis from RTCE Productions. RTCE are a new events company co-ordinating all aspects of live entertainment including providing sound and lighting equipment and expertise.

We discussed the event at some length, with particular reference to the sound reproduction. We both agreed that the job his team had done at the acoustic tent was first class.
At that moment the band Lorca were playing their particular brand of sun drenched rock in the late afternoon.

I listened more and found I could focus on each part of the whole sound; be it bass line (I love a good bass line) or lead guitar, drum patterns or vocals, the newly formed RTCE team seemed to have created a great sound.
I retreated out of the sun to refuel my steadily leaking lager can with more cider and caught Robert from Thearne Pet Shop entertaining a wonderfully eclectic crowd. He played a mixture of covers and original material. I was rather tipsy by this time so I spent the remainder of his set dancing and spinning around in the fairly confined space.

He finished with a comic number that had both me and the Silver Fox singing along. I'd like to hear it again I know it was good, something about body parts springs to mind, but I may be wrong. Perhaps someone will enlighten me?
Next came the poet that is Shep you will have noticed some of his verse featured on this very site, if you have not then I say unto you seek and thou shalt find. I must confess to missing the vast majority of his set due to an errand I was running.

I came back in time for his last number he too has been taking a dip in the bohemian stream of late. I remember a rather good song about airplanes that he did during the final days of the acoustic high jinks at The George hosted by CrackTown. Today I was struck by the way his voice seemed to have matured and grown stronger.
Steve Reed came on next always a pleasure to hear the talented singer songwriter especially in this type of intimate setting. Steve has recently been involved in a Leeds based music video competition. The video directed by Aurora Fearnley for the song 52 Cards depicts the last hours of a man's life before going to the firing squad.

The setting is darkly dramatic with a European rusticity. As the song progresses, the drama strays into gothic territory with stone arches and imposing walls that seem to close in on the characters within. Steve and the team around him were placed fourth in the competition just missing out on the top places.
Next came that magical festival moment, the one I've talked of before.

Going Down - Abseiling for Charity By Michelle Dee
A month ago an email was passed on to me about a charity event to take place at the Humber Bridge on the 18th of July. The charity was the RNIB who work to improve the lives of the blind and partially sighted. My sister Charlotte is blind in one eye so this worthy cause struck a particular chord with me. Going Down - Malarky Returns to Glastonbury 2004
This year I returned to that ever so laaaarrrrgggggeeee festival. Some call it gluttony, some Glastonbury. Arriving a day early meant the ground was dry when I put up tent. Rain, then wind, then sun, then rain. Sun, heavy rain, then it pissed it down again..........another washout at Glasto, surely not? Read more...

Going Down - World Music Day at Queens Gardens Saturday 19th June By Jane Foster
I'd been praying that the rain would hold off for this very special event at Queens Gardens. Luckily it did for most of the day, and with bands from as far afield as Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, we all ended up dancing our little socks off.. The day was organised by Chris Smith at the Warren centre, and hats off to him for putting on a great event Read more...

Going Down - Cannabis March to smoky bears picnic in Pearson Park By Carl Wagner
The bullying nature of the so called war on drugs makes it difficult for many people to even voice an opinion on cannabis, so well done to the 100 or so that turned up for the 4th annual cannabis protest march. The march left Queens Gardens at 1.00 pm with a police escort, and noisily worked its' way through the city centre Read more...

Going Down - Rain Didn't Stop Voices In Play By Rich Mills
I awoke this morning to a miserable day. Quite depressing after all the glorious sun we've had lately. More so because today was to be a large out-door event organised by community activists Voices In Play. It's A Community Knockout, supposed to be held at Princess Read more...

Going Down - An EveningWith The Dark Poet - Bill Hicks Anniversary Tribute At the Adelphi By Rich Mills
It seems strange to be doing a review of Bill Hicks ten years after his death from pancreatic cancer. On 26th of February 1994, the world became a darker place. However, a legacy of words that has resonated across the years, shows that the man who described himself as a dark poet was a shining light. A genius with a razor sharp wit, who never compromised, and only spoke the truth! Read more...

Going Down - Hit And Run Poetry By Rich Mills
Well the Renegades have been at it again. Sunday night, as the rest of the world took in the news of Saddam's capture, the Renegade Writers stormed the Jaz Bar in Lowgate, Hull. Now feelings would be mixed, I'm sure, as to whether they went down a storm or like a lead balloon. One thing is for certain - the quiet Sunday audience were not prepared for the Renegades onslaught.

Going Down - Got to pick a Poet or Two by Mo.
Last night I accompanied Jane from the Renegade writers to Nellies Pub in Beverley to what turned out to be a terrific night of competitive poetry readings. Ten years ago I'd be ribbed and teased. My mates would have said "you're going soft" to have spent the evening in front of a roaring fire listening to poetry in one of the oldest pubs in England. . Read more...

Going Down - Celebrations of Eid al-Fitr
This evening (29th Nov) I was invited out by Adelat a Kurdish friend to take part in the local celebrations of Eid al-Fitr marking the Breaking of the Ramadan Fast. We met up in one of the only two Kurdish restaurants in Hull, where I found him tucking into chicken and rice dinner alongside several other Kurdish friends. Read more...
