Monday 22nd to Friday 26th October 07 - Youth Music Week Project in Humberside
|
Features of the local landscape are set to provide musical inspiration to young
people in the Humber region as part of an ambitious project due to take place
during National Youth Music Week in October half term.
Music4U, the Humber Region Youth Music Action Zone, will be running the Borders,
Barriers and Bridges project offering music workshops in the East Riding of
Yorkshire, Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire over the October
half term holiday and then bringing young people in all four local authorities
together for a celebratory showcase performance in Hull.

The project is supported by the four local authorities in the region and BBC Blast
and celebrates Youth Music Week which takes place across the country.
|
|
The Borders, Barriers and Bridges music project will offer singing, rap and
African drumming workshops to young people aged between 8 -16 across the Humber region.
In each session participants will use aspects of the local landscape to inspire
lyrics and rhythms.
The workshops will take place over three days of the half-term holiday with tuition
provided by professional musicians. Star lyricist Polar Bear Poet is set to lead the
Rap sessions supported by Hull-based rapper David Okwesia.
The singing and African drumming classes will be led by a number of Humber-based
community musicians trained by Music4U.

Young people can sign up to one, two or all three of the workshops but
they must also be available to take part in the final rehearsals and
performance from 10.30am - 5.30pm on Friday 26 October to take place at
The Octagon Centre in Hull (transport will be provided).
Youth Music Week is now an annual event organised by Youth Music.
It celebrates music of all kinds with a week long extravaganza of
music activities happening across the country.
