Friday 19th January 07 - Education and Training - Understanding Community Development Work

The University of Hull at Scarborough, in conjunction with Social Enterprise Europe Ltd, have developed a series of accredited short courses on Social Enterprise.

The courses go far beyond the usual awareness-raising exercises in Social Enterprise - they aim to provide a basis for participants to be able to plan, establish, manage and govern a successful social enterprise. The courses will also provide a full understanding of the wider contexts of social enterprise :

Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd February - The Relevance of Social Enterprise
Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd March - Planning the Social Objectives

Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th May - Setting up and Managing the Business

Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th June - Democratic Working of a Social Enterprise

Thursday 5th and Friday 6th July - Sustainable Benefits of Social Enterprise

These are level 4 University Foundation Award (UFA) modules which can be studied in isolation or in succession to gain the full UFA award (60 credits including final reflective piece of work). Each course is inter-linked and lasts 12 hours plus private study and a written assignment.
The programme will be delivered at the Scarborough campus.

The courses will be of particular interest to:
  • Individuals working in the third sector, including; community regeneration, fair trade organisations, social firms, co-operatives, charities or voluntary organisations, community groups
  • Individuals interested in working in the third sector
  • Entrepreneurs who would like to run a business with social objectives
The fees per course are:

Full £58
Reduced £32 (students)
Concessionary - Free (family income is less than £15,000; those on benefits, registered job seekers).
