Tuesday 30th October Off The Road At New Adelphi Club De Grey St. Hull Show Time 7.30 - 11 pm
|
Like a stellar rock n' roll super group getting beyond their difficult '2nd album' stage,
the Urban Artz Off The Road variety show is swaggering back into town in fine form for
their entertainment-packed third show.
Partially tying in with the Hull Comedy Festival, Off The Road no.3 will be cajoled into
laughter from a blistering set by stand-up comedian Adam Haycroft. Also on the spoken word
front will be Jane Foster, a scribe for thisisull.com online magazine, who has, in the
past, had a witty bias about the bling-infested 'chav' culture that litters our shopping
centres and supermarket car parks.
|
|
|
CrackTown are making a welcome return as hosts for the night, as well as delivering
their own brand of unmistakably sarcastic country blues. An all-round rabble-rousing
crowd pleaser whose acerbic, unrelenting razor-sharp wit is a joy to behold.
Joe Hakim, motor mouth joint-winner of 2007's Poetry Idol competition, will be issuing
his machinegun-style invectives against the urbanely mundane, in the no-holds barred
fashion that is fast garnering him a national reputation.
The feisty all-female Scarlet Lights theatre troupe will be presenting the keenly awaited
second instalment of Sheality, an original performance that promises to scurrilously send
up male testosterones and gender stereotypes everywhere.
|
|
The Peasants Revolt will be performing their radical acoustic versions of well-known rock and pop
tunes, ranging from Thin Lizzy through to Britney Spears.
Between these stripped down and reconstructed classics, banter, chaos and inevitable squabbles
are guaranteed for the audience's delight.
|
|
|
Resident spoken-word bigmouth Philip Wincolmlee Barnes will be giving excerpts from "The Gimp's Sons",
an innocent (yet oddly suppressed) family sitcom. Entertaining troubadours Clearview Maddox describe
themselves as a 'Witham & Blues voodoo experience' that features Jed Hoyle (also of popular comedy
troupe The Hull Blokes), and are living proof of how selling your soul to the devil isn't
necessarily a good thing. Good music, horror, and everyday suburban life are set to be
combined in a hellish unity. (Oh, and there's also talk of an inflatable pig - although
that might be a wind-up).
|
|
Also on the musical front are Big Spider Beck. This comprises of Graham Beck (keyboard, and
erstwhile collaborator with Wreckless Eric), and Garry Pullen (on ukulele, and acclaimed
member of The Dog House Skiffle Band - whose fans include none other than Mungo Jerry).
A remarkable getting together of someone from Great Yarmouth and someone from Hull.
|
|
All this - and possibly even more - for a modest £3 entry fee, will ensure that the
third Off The Road show will be a splendid and fun-packed trip for all.

for a dose of satire. The performance starts at 7.30 pm.
