Friday 26th October 07 - Kill Surf City Riley and the Mumps Michelle Dee at ThisisUll Live at the Adelphi Club
|
|
This month months ThisisUll Live www.myspace.com/thisisull_live
presents Kill Surf City, Riley and the Mumps and the dulcet tones of Michelle Dee Plus DJ Skin spinning the
best tunes of the day.
|
|
Each month we'll be featuring just some of the talent that the local scene has to offer, including local
record labels, new promoters and special guests, all wishing to showcase their very best.
And what better venue than The Adelphi, the music capital of Hull?
|
|
Kill Surf City landed a prize slot on the Unsigned Stage at
Leeds Carling Festival 07 with accolades
and commendations following a stimulating performance. During the summer Kill Surf signed a
distribution deal through Square Peg Round Hole Records. They launched the Double A side single
A Common Interest in Silence (Live version from Leeds can be heard on BBC Radio) at
Yo-Yo Piper in September. MTV2 feature the outstanding KSC video for the track
All I Heard And
they blew away all the early revellers at East Park Rocks last month.
With this band there is no confusion,
Kill Surf City are simply outstanding. Come down this Friday 8pm and see if were wrong, the
NME don't think we are.
|
|
"With their slick, incidental twinkling and brooding melodies, KSC sit dear in the black hearts of
Hull's twisted indie kids" NME
|
|
Riley and The Mumps played a headline slot at Adelphi earlier this year and it remains one of my favourite feel
good live music nights this year. We had dancing and singing and all manner of iconic posing, as the band
belted through tune after tune. Riley and the Mumps were central to the launching of Purple Worm Records
and have two tracks on the sampler CD and a remix of Crossing Borders by Liam Jensen on the remix CD
alongside remixes from bands like Fifty Nine Violets, Ernest and The Vangos. With upcoming gigs at
Camden Bullet Bar 11th November and Under the Boardwalk Sheffield on the 16th, this young band will
definitely be making a big impact on the gig circuit this Autumn. Come down, be part of it all and some have fun.
|
|
|
During the night, the live music will be broken up by some original verse by Michelle Dee.
You can go outside while she's on and smoke a cig or take a listen it's your choice.
Last week she described herself as the self styled saviour of the Hull Music Scene when hosting the recent
AfterGlow A night in the life of EP Launch party. She shall be reading from her extensive back catalogue
of published and unpublished works including one more or a few taken from this site. Michelle has performed
as one part of the Renegade Writers at Lit Fest 2004 to great acclaim. Since then she has made up the
numbers at numerous shows including the King Billy Cottingham, Babylon Bar Grimsby, Ye Olde Black Boy,
(continuing a tradition started by one Philip Larkin) The George Pub and Haworth Arms as well as a
September outing at Off The Road night on the hallowed Adelphi stage.
|
We're not just giving every local band an opportunity to promote their music, we're also intending
to give more of our talented writers and photographers the opportunity to flex their creative
muscles and make a name for themselves by covering the local scene.
The evening kicks off at 8pm, tickets £3.
If you're a band looking for media coverage or a writer with an opinion and ready to tell it
like it is, we want to hear
from you! Please contact us via Myspace or email us at
