Friday 10th February - Funky at Hull University Student Union Jonny Mac Bar, 9pm - 2.30am

Friday 10th February sees the biggest ever Funky and Hull's first experience of one of the world's leading DJs - remixer of the White Stripes, Roni Size and The Streets.

Funky is an independent event where we basically hire the Hull University Student Union venue, bring down the city's best sound system, keep the drinks cheap and the place open late - and with the DJs and bands - we go for party rockin', cutting edge crowd pleasers.
Musically you'll hear anything from the Fugees to the Prodigy, James Brown to Basement Jaxx, Roni Size, Fatboy Slim, Shy FX, The Chemical Brothers, Pendulum, Daft Punk, etc.

This year's Special Guests have included hip hop from Radio 1's DJ Blakey, electro from Hull's favorites Mr Beasley and funk from the city's new record label, Concrete Breaks.
However, one thing has remained throughout... When we first played drum 'n' bass we were amazed at how everyone 'got it' - from students to rockers, indie kids, ravers and trendies alike, the dancefloor was instantly transformed... It naturally became the event's regular finale', but until now we've never had a drum 'n' bass special guest DJ.
And then High Contrast came along. In the word's of Radio 1's Annie Nightingale: 'The rise of High Contrast has been breathtaking; from making tunes in his bedroom to DJing worldwide to sell out crowds, High Contrast rapidly became one of the most in demand DJs on the scene.'

And as to why he's perfect for Funky, here's the UK's best club, Fabric: 'His eclectic sets are a true antithesis to the criticism that drum 'n' bass is jarring and redundant. His DJing style is a warm, glittery mix that provides a vivid snapshot of some of drum n bass' most exciting artists'.
High Contrast (Hospital Records) :

Mixmag: 'one of the essential dance albums of the year' .

Radio 1's Fabio: 'the best on the scene for a couple of years'

BBC: 'The rhythmic rush and compelling warmth warmly invites us all - yes, the ladies as well - back into the radiant, multi-colored, post-apocalyptic world that is, once again, drum 'n' bass.'

Hull Uni SU Jonny Mac Bar is open to the public.
Advance tickets £6.50 from Beasleys (Hepworth Arcade, Hull City Centre) or £8 on the door.

Friday 10th February, 9pm-2:30am (bar 'til 2am)
Plus additional 4,000w HPSS soundystem
Pints of Carlsberg 1.20 before 11pm
Bottles of Coors (5.2%) 1.20 all night.

DJ Line-Up :

High Contrast (www.HospitalRecords.com)
Bungle (Elobo) - electro / breaks
J-Tee (Funky/Bass Behaviour) - drum'n'bass
Don Phileone (Funky) - hip hop, funk and breaks
Lydon MC (Funky/Shinobi).
