Thursday 19th January - Steve Larkman at Stripped, The Wellington Inn, Russell Street 8pm

Top Hull singer/songwriter Steve Larkman is appearing at the hugely popular 'Stripped' acoustic night at The Wellington Inn, Russell Street, Hull on Thursday 19th January.

Steve is preparing for the release of his latest album, Word Games, which is the first of a four album deal with TKO Records whose CEO Jeffrey Kruger MBE created the first indie record label, Ember Records and the world famous Flamingo Club in London in the 1950's. Dr. Kruger has worked very closely with Steve on the production of the forthcoming album.
Leading up to this new album, planned for release in spring 2006, Steve has re-arranged a selection of his material to enable him to perform it live with just the aid of his acoustic guitar.

Stripping down the previously only studio recorded material has allowed Steve to get to the essence of the songs and create a set of powerful and timeless tracks that echo the great British songwriters and bands of yesteryear like The Who, David Bowie, The Kinks and even Pink Floyd as well as being firmly rooted in the here and now of U2 or James Blunt.
Plans are afoot for Steve to tour extensively to promote this new album and he has been warming up for this by appearing at several local venues over the last few months to hone his live performance, these appearances have included the always popular Sunday Sesh at The Linnet & Lark, Princes Avenue, Hull, the regular and long running Monday evening musician's night at The Adelphi, De Grey Street, Hull, The Springhead, Aston Road, Hull supporting Phil Marshall alongside Emma Rugg and a trip across the country to perform at the world famous Cavern Club in Liverpool.
The Stripped acoustic night runs on the first and third Thursday every month. Alongside the Sunday Sesh and musician's night at The Adelphi, it is one of the best attended and highest quality nights of acoustic music in the region with regular appearances from the cream of Hull's exploding original musical talent and songwriters, the venue is intimate and friendly and the night exceedingly well organised by Pat Gradwell.
Also appearing on the 19th January alongside Steve Larkman are indie rock band Shindigg who have developed an acoustic set of their very popular material and Arcade, a duo featuring keyboards and guitar and highly recommended by another of Hull's top songwriters and tip for the top Steve Reed (who has also appeared at The Stripped night).

Entrance to the night is free and performances start from 8pm.

For more information on Steve Larkman go to www.stevelarkman.com or email him at . info@stevelarkman.com.

Under The Influence celebrated its Christmas bash down at the Adelphi with a line up of rather new Hull bands them being, GST Cardinals, The Blackouts and The Chase. The billed act, !Forward Russia! sadly cancelled so promoter Dean Shakespeare had to make a few fast decisions to insure the show went on. Music Reviews - Neville Staples, Quartermain and The Bonnitts at The Ringside, Monday 19th December 05 By Dick Spring Photos By Mo
Monday December 19th 2005 is a date that could go down in the musical history of the city, for that was the day Neville Staples, original rudeboy singer of the legendary Two Tone band The Specials, and co founder of Fun Boy Three, made a triumphant return to Hull. Opening up were Hull favourites The Bonnitts who, though beset by a few technical problems, marched on through Read more...

Music Reviews - Tuesday 15th November - She Likes Parties at The Sesh By Becky
Over the last few weeks I have watched She Likes Parties come forward in leaps and bounds. Having gained a reputation from Sally Likes Parties (vocals) performing a capella at Staks cafe bar, acoustic sets at Linnet, Staks and Adelphi and drunken spur of the moment sets in the back room of Saturday night Silhouettes, the band had a lot to live up to at their debut gig as a full Read more...

Music Reviews - Thursday 15th December 05 - Band Wars at The Polar Bear By Michelle Dee
Band Wars 2005 Result is an Insult to Hull Music. You know there's something amiss when you have to explain the presence of your bar staff in one of the bands to reach the final four. The competition was held at Polar Bear, the prize was a £1000. The four bands in the final were Jilly hates Willy Konscience, The Cyclones and The Landaus. There really was no contest or shouldn't have been... Read more...

Music Reviews - Bob Geldof at Hull City Hall - Thursday 1st December 05 By Steve Rudd
December 1st 2005, in my mind, has gone down in history as an unforgettable day. It was the day I met my biggest hero. And whoever said that to meet your hero is usually a disappointing affair was wrong in this instance, and since meeting Bob Geldof (twice in one night!), I'm filled with even more respect for the man ... the god. I never ever thought I'd get the chance to meet Read more...

Music Reviews - 3rd November - Mystery Jets at The Adelphi By Emily
Thursday 3rd was Mystery Jets' third visit to the Adelphi - their previous gig, earlier in the year - and proves that they are only getting bigger and better. This time around the venue was a lot fuller; buzzing with people curious as to whether the Mystery Jets live up to the hype. Since the Jets' last Hull appearance, the band has gained coverage through the NME Read more...

Music Reviews - Kill Surf City By Michelle Dee
The fresh five-piece from Hull have fast become the band name to drop in any discerning musos discourse. Recent months has seen them leapfrogging the opposition and quickly reaching and surpassing a few significant milestones. The band had barely been together two months when they headlined at the Sesh (see review thisisull.com ) Linnet and Lark. This was quickly followed by more Read more...

Music Reviews - Night Clubs - Friday 2nd December - Regis at Pure Techno at Rhythm Room By Michelle Dee
Friday night in the icy rain I flagged down a cab to town. My preferred late night spot tonight was Rhythm Room on Baker Street for a heady night of uplifting beats. Music Reviews - 13th October 05 - thisisUll.com Keeping It Peel at The Silhouette By Joe Hakim Photographs by Darren Rogers and Mo
Whenever a musical icon dies, there always follows a period where their name and image is turned into a commodity. The best current example would be John Lennon. The celebration of what would have been his sixty-fifth birthday and the impending twentieth anniversary of his death has sent the record companies and the various conglomerates that Read more...

Music Reviews - Scarborough Beached Festival 2005 Sunday By Michelle Dee Photos by Roland Standaert and Michelle Dee
Sand beneath my feet, sounds of activity on the stage, blue skies overhead, sun blazing: a strange but rather pleasant surrounding for a gig. Amaya Huntly and Jon Neeves had the unenviable task to open the show on Sunday. An acoustician and Keyboard duo; the highlight of their set was the Credence Clearwater Revival cover where they proved with a strong number they can do a Read more...
