Sunday 2nd July 06 - The Splendour of Indian Music and Dance at Hull City Hall, Victoria Square 6pm

People in the region will have an opportunity to discover and enjoy the passion and mystery of Indian instrumental music and classical dance from the land of Eastern promise. One of the most lively and colourful music and dance events in the city, the Indian Cultural Festival looks set to become a regular feature of the city. Raga Nova is a distinctive ensemble, which brings Indian classical music to audiences in an accessible form. They feature a combination of saxophone and sarode, thus bringing together Western and Indian instruments. They also combine North and South Indian percussion - a rare feature! To top it off, this ensemble brings together the best of British-Asian classical musicians. The music also incorporates non -Asian traditions like jazz and samba!

Kadam Dance Group presents an evening of Odissi and Kathak, performed by six leading artists in a programme designed to awaken the senses to the power and grace of classical Indian dance. Odissi derives from the temples of eastern India and is imbued simultaneously with devotion and sensuality. Kathak is marked by great virtuosity in its fiery rhythms and sharp pirouettes but at the same time the upper body displays subtle grace. Doors open 6pm, performance starts from 7pm. Tickets cost £4 for adults, £2.50 for children and are available from the City Hall Box Office on 01482 226655.
