Little Britain, Large Communities: Regional Forum Policy Conference At National Centre for Early Music, York, Friday 22nd September 06 9.30am - 1.00pm
|
Geoff Mulgan will be speaking about what makes community happen at Little Britain, Large Communities
conference at York Early Music Centre on September 22nd.
In his latest book, Good and Bad Power: The Ideals and Betrayals of Government, Geoff argues that morality is not guaranteed by well-crafted constitutions or the personal values of leaders alone, but is dependent on the moral quality of the media, activists, commentators and the public as a whole. Moreover, democracies require constant and vigorous renewal and challenge, usually from outside the political system.
|
|
|
Something has gone badly wrong in our relationship with power.
This book explains why we have arrived at this point, what can be done to change the world,
and see the power of governments used for good.
Good and Bad Power can be purchased direct from the Young Foundation (or more cheaply from Amazon).
Recent evidence shows that the quality of government does more to shape human happiness than anything else - more than economic growth, education or health. But few societies have found it easy to get the government they want and need.

Music Reviews - Wednesday 23rd August 06 - Analogue Consumption Quick To the Observatory and The Clauberg Opera at the New Adelphi Club By Michelle Dee - NEW Photo Gallery by Tim Sinister
|
|
Tonight was a night of firsts, three of them to be exact.
The First "first" was Analogue Consumption's debut; a progressive three
piece with heavy New Order influences.
The bass driven sound was pleasingly at odds with the low key vocal
style of the charismatic front man.
Those around me said it reminded them of someone; that muted vocal style

The Sesh By Michelle Dee Photos By Michelle and Rachel

Just got back from The Sesh on Princes Avenue, I had to strip off as soon
as I was in the privacy and comfort of my living room because I was so hot and sticky.
Sat naked now, I write this appraisal of tonight's eventful triple header.
GST Cardinals were in fine fettle taking a rare early slot they proceeded to
rock the Sesh to the rafters. They played a mix of

the downstairs bar of Ringside, with a sizeable number of real rockers
