30th July - 7th August 05 - Hull Jazz Festival

It's summer and it is the time, yet again, for the sizzling Hull Jazz Festival!

It kicks off with 2 massive free concerts in Queens Gardens on 30 and 31 July and continues until 7 August with gigs throughout the city.
The ever-popular outdoor Jazz Weekend will take place in Queens Gardens over the weekend of July 30 and 31st and headlines Denis Rollins' Boneyard plus a host of other musicians, including Orgatronics, Jazz Vehicle and Manchester Jazz. Last year 8,000 people attended the Queens Gardens event, which is completely free and starts at noon each day!
Dennis Rollins has reinterpreted the black musical tradition and brought together the UK's top jazz, funk, Latin and ska trombonists to form his own Shout Band, BoneYard.

The 13th Hull Jazz Festival then continues with a feast of world-class jazz in the city.
Jazz Jamaica, featuring Britain's most important jazz artists, including Soweto Kinch, Denys Baptiste and Abram Wilson, head the international list of musicians coming to Hull for the Festival, which runs from 30 July to 7 August.
A special hip hop and soul jazz night takes place at hull truck with Grounation, the Lewis Express and DJ The Reverend.

Local musicians form an important part of the Festival and this year will feature over 30 Hull jazz players, including such well-known names as Grounation, Lyn Acton, Martin Jones, Alf Stephenson and Rob Law.
The Good Fellowship concert room is turned into a jazz club during the Festival to accommodate special Festival specially commissioned gigs by leading regional musicians headed up by Lyn Acton, Martin Jones, Jamil and Naadia Sheriff.

Free jazz can also be heard in Pave Café Bar during the Festival featuring outstanding local artists.

Tickets for all concerts are now on sale and a free brochure with full details is available from hull truck theatre. Advance booking is recommended, as last year the majority of concerts sold out well in advance.

The Hull Jazz Festival is organised by Kingston-upon-Hull City Council and is sponsored by the Arts Council of England, Yorkshire, Pave and J-Night.
