Event Management and Production Course by HPSS, Starting 25th July
Natalie Imbruglia, Billie Piper, Jools Holland and Supergrass are just a few of the
household names Linda Cressey, a director at Hull-based HPSS,
has worked with in 18 years as an entertainment, sports and show biz events organiser.
Now, Mrs Cressey is offering to share her very practical experience through a
six-week-long Event Management and Production course this summer.
"The aim is to get into the nitty-gritty of running a proper, professional public event", says
Mrs Cressey. "It would suit people who might be wanting to run their own event, but don't know
how, or people who are trying to get into the industry but simply don't have the experience.
" The course, which will focus on practical and real issues, draws on Mrs Cressey's work
at all kinds of events, from the Epsom Derby to a Gerry and the Pacemakers tour.
"All are welcome," she says. "You might be wanting to put on a gig and know you can't just photocopy a few posters and hook up a few lights. Or you might have agreed to run the PA at a series of dog shows, or a charity event, but don't know how to go about it."
This course, says Mrs Cressey, offers the chance to learn the skills crucial to successful event management at a variety of levels, and would be a place to make a constructive, professional and responsible start. Topics covered by the course include how to work with official bodies, how to meet specific technical requirements, dealing with staff and equipment, legal issues, design and decoration, cost analysis and health and safety.
"You need knowledge of practical issues, such as how many people can you get in how many square feet of space," says Mrs Cressey. "It's an absolute, hands-on, what you will need to know course."
The course starts on July 25th, with one half-day and one evening a week for six weeks: Monday (10am -2pm) and Wednesday (7pm To 9pm) at a cost of £150. There are up to ten places available.
HPSS's production management skills and expertise extends to serving peoples'
events needs with audio and lighting rental and production services among others.
Based on Dairycoates Industrial Estate, off Hessle Road, HPSS has also been running courses in sound engineer training over the last year.
