Coming Up, Protest
Last Updated: 21/07/2005 12:23:04
Saturday 23rd July - PETA Protest Against KFC Cruelty, Kingswood KFC 1.00pm

A public protest will take place this coming Saturday at 1.00pm outside the Kingswood KFC. This protest is to raise awareness of KFC's abuse of the chickens they use. KFC has ignored their responsibility to ensure that the chickens that end up in their buckets and boxes are not grossly abused.

KFC have yet to adopt any of the recommendations sent to their chief operating officer in March 2005, developed by members of KFC's own animal welfare board in co-operation with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
KFC's chickens are treated in ways that would warrant felony cruelty-to-animals charges if they were dogs, cats, or even cows or pigs. Sadistic and routine cruelty goes unpunished.

In the factory farms and slaughterhouses of KFC's suppliers, chickens are subjected to live scalding, lifelong crippling, broken bones and painful de-beaking. They are crammed into sheds hardly able to move (each chicken lives in a space about the size of a piece of paper) until they are killed, often fully conscious as their throats are cut.
The protest will take the form of congregating on the sidewalk outside of the Kingswood KFC and demanding that it adopt the resolutions in PETA's recommended animal welfare program. A turnout of anywhere from 50 to 250 people is expected, mostly students.

There will be large banners, posters, and a butcher costume on display. This should be a great photo opportunity and is expected to attract a lot of attention from bystanders.
