Exhibition Preview:
Captive Light by Nathaniel Rackowe
Launch Event: 6 - 8pm
Monday 17th January
Timebase Gallery - All Welcome
Exhibition then Runs from 18th January - 4th February
11am - 5pm FREE
London based Nathaniel Rackowe uses light and kinetic elements to work with the boundaries
of exhibition spaces. Video footage of computer generated virtual environments
will feature as part of the installation at Timebase Gallery.
|
|
Rackowe's large scale sculptural works are designed to interact with the environment in which they are situated; either through movement or by forcing the viewer to modify how they would normally move about the space.
A rotating perspex 1:4 scale model of the Timebase gallery space forms the centre of the kinetic sculpture presented in this exhibition.
These sculptures question the built environment, testing the boundaries of the space that contains them. The work has an intense yet unpredictable relationship to the architectural space it inhabits, pushing at its limitations, hovering within the constraints of a room, the structures divide space, forcing new paths and routes creating passages of movement through space.
Rackowe exhibits both individual and group projects, and recently has shown work
in Switzerland and Chicago.
In addition to his Emerging Artist Residency with Hull Time Based Arts, Rackowe will
also be developing work this winter for Miami's Art Fair and has a commission for a
permanent public sculpture in London.
Emerging Artists: The emerging artist residency programme offers a development bursary to new and upcoming artists, providing them with the opportunity to develop work over two weeks and present it in a gallery context for a further two. Proposals for inclusion in this programme are welcome

Music Reviews - 10,000 Things at Jaz Bar - 26th October 04 By Caroline Murphy
|
|
So what do the music magazines know about the sensitive side of a group of sexed up 20-some-Things!
Their stage show gives anything but that impression, but close-up and personal in the smaller
venues of Hull Jaz Bar and Shrewsbury Buttermarket, I can tell a different story.

The Morphines and The 89 80s at The Sesh, Linnet and Lark - 30th November 04 By Andy Dykes, Photos by Darren Rogers
|
|
Once again tonight, Princes Ave's Linnet and Lark plays host to a evening of live bands.
With a stage littered with instruments and a bar crowded with rock n roll types, it looks
suitably like the home of what is fast becoming one of the most widely respected and
indeed played evenings in Hull.
Tonight's headliners
