The 3-fold Ear and the Energies of Enthusiasm - Z'EV

Wednesday 3rd November Lincoln Uni, George St Campus Hull 6 - 8pm FREE Text / sound artist Z'EV will use the anatomy of the ear to address the question as to why the ear is the major sense used for trance induction worldwide since the beginning of time.

Beginning at the end of the Exterior Ear we'll encounter the Tympanic Membrane, where we'll dive into the world of the Drum: trance enducer par excellance. Continuing to the Middle Ear we find the Hammer, Anvil and Stirrup. This takes us into the Smithy, a paramount realm of the Shaman and inspiration for Pythagoras's first theory of Music. Our journey ends at the Inner Ear, the Cochlea or Labyrinth, whose paths we will meander. This brings us full circle to the Labrys where we'll encounter the Voice of Power vibrating the waters and bringing forth Light.

Z'EV was born in Los Angeles, built his first drum set at age seven and began playing professionally at twelve. He has developed a range of concussive and percussive instruments, and was one of the founders of the Industrial Music/Art Movement. In 1981 he was the first artist to release his material on VCR format. Z'EV has performed in over 80 cities and has released over 30 collections of music.

His book, Rhythmajik, was originally published in 1992, and he is currently completing his next book Ear Drumming, an investigation into hearing and trance. Currents is a regular series of lectures presented by Hull Time Based Arts, Currents provides a theoretical approach to social and historical contexts and themes. Cultural commentators and writers will speak on a range of topics from the underground to the mainstream accompanied by diverse audiovisual supporting materials. These lectures are supported by Hull School of Media Technologies, and Hull School of Art and Design.
