Art Premiere: Valley of the Dreamers - Aurelia Mihai
Romanian born artist Aurelia Mihai is currently undertaking a two-month residency at Hull Time Based Arts where she will complete and present The Valley of the Dreamers - a fake documentary about Egyptology in the USA.
The content of this research piece is not about the discovery of the ancient Egyptians, but film set and other reproductions of Egyptian architecture in California and Nevada.
Aurelia's residency is undertaken as part of the 9th
European Media Artists in Residence Exchange (EMARE). Hull Time Based Arts, together with three other partner organisations in Scotland, the Netherlands and Germany, are working together under EMARE to enable the closer collaboration and connections between European artists and media organisations.
Aurelia Mihai examines the shortening of historical processes in today's society.
Valley of the Dreamers compares the 3000-year period, from the construction to the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, to the 70 years between the construction and discovery of the film-sets of Cecil B. DeMille.
Explanations of excavation and dating techniques form part of the film, through interviews with American Egyptologists.
Archive footage, photography, reproductions of books and the Egyptian excavation sites of the Tutankhamun tombs are also included.
The Valley of the Dreamers will be screened throughout the day in the Ferens Gallery Live Art Space, from 5th-11th April (closed 9th). Free Admission. Mon-Sat 10am-5pm* Sun1.30-4.30pm
*Workshops for education groups will take place on Tuesday 6th & Wednesday 7th during which public access to the installation will be restricted at certain times.

Coming Up - Red Gallery Exhibition - Wildwood by Susanne Kohler 19th April - 1st May 2004
The ambiguity and enchantment in Wildwood is created by the very nature of the process Kohler uses.
The bike's rear wheel is lifted off the ground allowing her to peddle to generate the photographic light.
This technique captures blurred areas of Kohler“s movement which contrast with the sharp detail of the plant life.
This process also allows
