Ange Taggart, co-founder of Fanclub and its sequel My Dads Strip Club is best known for slipping through the gap between the dissatisfied shopper and consumer culture.
Recent work has been situated in the commercial zones of supermarkets, banks and store windows.
|
|
Taggart has recently been collaborating with the notorious political activist Mark Barnsley, who is considered an enemy of the state. He has been held for ten years in UK high security prisons (including Hull). Taggart and Barnsley have worked shifts as 'in-security' guards, searching bags questioning unsuspecting arms dealers and guarding the US embassy on 9/11.
Critical Platform is a programme of seminars occurring monthly throughout the year presenting the work of artists within the context of current artistic practise and theory. Each event will bring together two or more artists and curators to explore themes and issues in live and digital arts.
Barnsley and Taggart will present aspects of their work to discuss with the audience following a daytime intervention in the city responding to Hull's institutions. Critical Platform will provide an opportunity to see new artworks as well as a forum in which the audience can question and challenge the artists themselves.

HULL TIME BASED ARTS
PRESENTS GAGE
TECHNOLOGY ART & THE INDIVIDUAL
|
42 / 43 HIGH ST. HULL HU1 1PS
WEDNESDAY, 4th FEBRUARY- SUNDAY 8th FEBRUARY 2004
|
Gage is a programme of seminars, workshops, discussions, screenings and events organised by Hull Time Based Arts bringing together artists, writers and curators to consider the way we interact with technology at the beginning of the 21st century. The programme will explore the changing relationship between technology, art and the individual and consider how digital art forms are changing the way we perceive the world.
An interactive Mediahub in the Ferens Gallery, Hull, will be open from Wednesday 4th to Friday 6th February giving audiences a chance to view examples of cutting edge net-based art, animation and projection pieces. School and community groups as well as the general public will be able to spend time exploring the amazing variety of work produced under the banner of digital or media arts. Projections of online works will give a powerful sense of the immersive spectacle of these new art forms.
On both Thursday and Friday the evening will include a series of lectures which aims to investigate the more unusual side of our relationship with technology. Guests will include writers Paul Devereux and Mark Pilkington. Together we will explore the primal technologies of shamanism and megalithic science, and uncover the forgotten technologies of Victorian England and the paranoia of the Cold War.
On Saturday 7th February a programme of seminars will bring together panels of international digital arts curators, writers and artists to present their work and discuss issues in digital arts with the audience. The discussions will cover themes including real and virtual spaces, technology, the human body and the educational potential of interactivity.
