Coming Up
Thursday 22nd July - Sweet N Sour at The Welly
Kasabian, Mad Action and The Landaus

Kasabian - A band on the verge of a national breakthrough, and described by the NME as Screamadelica-era Primal Scream meets The Specials!
Kasabian hail from deepest Leicestershire, and wrap their baggy-grooved pop anthems in an air of controversy (they are reputedly named after the Manson Family's getaway driver) and revolutionary imagery, with ultra-rare debut single Processed Beats (1000 copies only, all on 10 inch vinyl, all individually wrapped in the Kasabian Flag) having caused a stir at the end of last year.
Imagine the best bits of Primal Scream, the Stone Roses and every great baggy band blended together, with haircuts that The Cooper Temple Clause would be proud of.

Their hip-hop beats and powerful wall of rock have already seen them rip through a tour with Electric Six, and singer Tom Meighan rightly has the demonic fervour of the front man of the UK's next truly great band.

A truly violent delight - Virtual Festivals
Beats, fantastic basslines and some actual tunes too - Drowned in Sound
Mad Action - A deranged art-rock duo from Philadelphia, Mad Action suck from the same Jesus and Mary Chain-inspired lemon as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and have already played coveted support slots with both BRMC and The Strokes. Sneering guitar violence with moments of true brilliance.
The sound of the Beach Boys surfing in oil-spilt oceans.. cling on to their dark hearts and don't let go - The Fly
The Landaus - Laddish Hull quartet The Landaus are a chilled-out, riff-some delight, and singles like Sweet But True have started ears twitching in the national press, with the bizarre new genre Nu-Pub Rock even having been created for them! Ironic for a band barely old enough to order a pint.. Think a lighter Manics with solos that would hardly disgrace an Iron Maiden anthem.

Doors Open 9pm - Admission £5

Music Reviews - Dead or American - Band Bio
In accordance with the prophecy, Dead or American came into being at the stroke of midnight on the 31st December, 1999 - the result of numerous failed musical ventures. Following the departure of founder-member Greg Heuer in 2003 after he realised there was more to life than this rock n roll pish. Various bassist were drafted in Read more...

Music Reviews - The Mingers, Bosseye, The 30 Second Dead, Diverse Unit @ Adelphi Tue 13th July 2004 By Dick Spring
Bloody hell! It's about time! A proper punk band that had me rolling back the years. I am, of course talking about Diverse Unit, a bunch of snot nosed punks all around the age of 15 or so, with a passion and something to say. The songs were there as well, and for a first gig it showed a talent and tightness of a band Read more...

Music Reviews - Payola and Malibu Stacey at The Springhead Sunday 11th July By Dick Spring
ROCK'N'ROLL!!!!!!!!! Bring it on. This is what gigs are about; the like of which we haven't seen for many a long year and in a proper little rock 'n' roll venue. The Springhead, not known for being a hotbed of originality, despite being an excellent place to see live music, has stuck it's neck out and booked a fast rising UK rock band Read more...

Music Reviews - Le Shed at The Ringside - Wednesday 30th June By Dick Spring
It's been a while since we've had a band in Hull to fill the void left by DumpValve, since they took a heavier more thrashy direction. Well, now such a band exists in the Form of Le Shed, who many will have seen gigging like mad round Hull in recent months, building up a healthy profile. And now it was the turn of The Ringside to host them Read more...

Music Reviews - Eleanor McEvoy and Ade Webb Adelphi 6th July By Michelle Dee
I was very keen to go to this gig to see the leading lady of Irish folk, as she was billed, to see whether she lived up to that accolade. Simon the keyboard player from the highly acclaimed band cowfisH accompanied me I had hoped to avail myself of his extensive folk music knowledge. I digress.. Eleanor McEvoy was being supported Read more...

Music Reviews - Windum Earl Wednesday 7th July Ringside, Beverley Road, Hull By Daniel Laney
It's been a while since my last review so I was more than delighted to write about a band I have never seen before. To me Wednesday's have always sucked in a huge way since someone decided to close down Room. Television on Wednesday is mind numbing (when is it ever good)? And everyone now seems to enjoy going to the Read more...

Music Reviews - Break Even - A Local Band Bio -
Plus Gig Dates
Break Even is a 4 piece rock 'n' roll band based in Hull, East Yorkshire. Our music lies closer to the garage rock scene but we do not like to categorise our music into any specific group, as our main concentration is on the song writing. The band was formed in January 2003 and we have been gigging since January Read more...

Opinions - Will graduate plumbers be up to the job?
By Jane Foster
The recent programme Posh Plumbers on BBC1 highlighted the growing number of middle class graduates and professionals turning to plumbing for a living. With a national shortage of 32,000 plumbers, and salaries to match those of a decent job in the capital, the profession is changing. Read more...

Opinions - Come On You Hull! By Laura Baldwin
So our latest award to sit alongside our much treasured worst city to live in the UK award' is that of the fattest city in the UK. Yep, not content with telling us that we live in the most crap city in the UK but apparently we're also a bunch of big lard arses as well. Charming. It seems that no-one has anything good to say these days about the historic city of Hull. Read more...

Opinions - Haircuts In The Crowd By Mr. Lucifer
If you are becoming bored of the vain, look at me I'm so cool culture that swamps the nationwide indie/rock scene and if you are sick of standing among people with the same haircuts, the same clothes, and the same transfixed miserable look on their faces, then, you are obviously craving exactly what I am Read more...

Humour - Merchant Bankers By Darren Sant
Where do I start? I was enjoying a lovely Saturday afternoon snooze, as you do, and the phone started ringing. Having worked in an office for years it is second nature for me to answer a ringing phone. I roused myself from sleep and tiredly picked up the phone. I was greeted by a chirpy chinless wonder who Read more...
