Sweet N Sour - Hull's Newest Club Night - Every Thursday At The Welly

Har Mar Superstar, Kasabian, The 5678s and David Devant and his Spirit Wife are amongst the acts confirmed to play at a brand new weekly club night in Hull.

Sweet N Sour, at The Welly Club, launches on 15th July and will showcase the best national bands every Thursday, together with some of the finest local acts around. Turismo, The Applewhites, The Paddingtons and Salako are already confirmed to appear, and top DJs will then take Sweet N Sour into the small hours with the best and latest indie and rock sounds.
Promoter Graham Ramsay, whose company Ten Feet Tall has been running a similar night in Middlesbrough for the last two years said, The Welly is a brilliant venue, and this is a great opportunity for some of the best up-and-coming bands in the country to come to Hull. We'd like to try to bring a new flavour to the city's nightlife.

No advance tickets will be available for any Sweet N Sour nights, and standard on-the-door price is £5. Doors open at 9pm.
Thursday 15th July - Launch Party!
Turismo & The Applewhites - Two of Hull's finest local bands - Turismo's quirky guitar pop has seen them compared to Supergrass and The Coral, and The Applewhites' indie anthems have earned them support slots with The Ordinary Boys.
Thursday 22nd July
Kasabian, Mad Action, & The Landaus - NME favourites and Top 20 stars Kasabian are a dynamic combination of beats and guitars with a Primal Scream influence. Mad Action bring Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-style art rock from the US and The Landaus are local Hull rock faves.
Thursday 29th July
Har Mar Superstar & The Paddingtons - Har Mar Superstar - the man in the underpants! Brilliant funked-up hip-hop from this unlikely strip-tease crazy sex symbol. Together with Hulls' pop-punk stars The Paddingtons, fresh from support slots with The Libertines.
Thursday 5th August - Libertines Single Launch Night!
The new Libertines single "Can't Stand Me Now" has its official launch at the Welly - giveaways, promos and more!
Thursday 19th August
The 5678s - All-girl Japanese punk rockabilly brilliance whose Woo-hoo! anthem was the soundtrack for both Euro 2004 and Kill Bill!
Thursday 2nd September
The Complete Stone Roses - One of the best tribute bands in the business, an uncanny homage to the Roses at their paint-splattered peak.
Thursday 7th October
David Devant and his Spirit Wife - One of the best live acts around, these mad Music Hall-inspired freaks combine glam-rock with a stage show that is pure Vaudeville. Think David Bowie meets Vic Reeves Big Night Out.

Music Reviews- Bryan Adams, Proud Mary and Sketcher at the KC Stadium, Hull Saturday 26th June 04 By Steve Rudd
St. Helens-based quartet Sketcher were something of a bizarre choice for the first support act of the night, playing a damn fine brand of pop-punk music. Still, they did what they were in a sense expected to do, and warmed-up the crowd to a fantastic degree, with audience participation paramount (even if the extent of Read more...

Music Reviews- The Levellers at Beverley Leisure Centre, Friday 18th June By Steve Rudd
Spearheading the 21st celebrations of Beverley's mighty Folk Festival, I'll be honest - it took me a while to grasp the fact that The Levellers were actually in the centre and ready to play out their hearts, all-acoustically and in high spirits. In support, a couple of Australian guys by the names Read more...

Opinions - Will graduate plumbers be up to the job?
By Jane Foster
The recent programme Posh Plumbers on BBC1 highlighted the growing number of middle class graduates and professionals turning to plumbing for a living. With a national shortage of 32,000 plumbers, and salaries to match those of a decent job in the capital, the profession is changing. Read more...

Opinions - Come On You Hull! By Laura Baldwin
So our latest award to sit alongside our much treasured worst city to live in the UK award' is that of the fattest city in the UK. Yep, not content with telling us that we live in the most crap city in the UK but apparently we're also a bunch of big lard arses as well. Charming. It seems that no-one has anything good to say these days about the historic city of Hull. Read more...

Opinions - Haircuts In The Crowd By Mr. Lucifer
If you are becoming bored of the vain, look at me I'm so cool culture that swamps the nationwide indie/rock scene and if you are sick of standing among people with the same haircuts, the same clothes, and the same transfixed miserable look on their faces, then, you are obviously craving exactly what I am Read more...

Humour - Merchant Bankers By Darren Sant
Where do I start? I was enjoying a lovely Saturday afternoon snooze, as you do, and the phone started ringing. Having worked in an office for years it is second nature for me to answer a ringing phone. I roused myself from sleep and tiredly picked up the phone. I was greeted by a chirpy chinless wonder who Read more...
