Live and Kicking - Sound - at Jaz Café Bar, 41 Lowgate, Hull
Sundays 6pm - 10.30pm
Young local artist Jason Karlson has organised a brand new weekly event to give local live artistes a chance to perform in public. The first of his Sunday evening 'open mic' type gatherings will be 14th December.
I asked Jason about the event and he said, Basically the gig is to try and promote more new music and creativity in Hull by giving people a stage on which to present their material for free. Each week there will also be a headline band or act for people to watch featuring an up and coming artist.
It also comes as a reaction against all the big club nights and the uni nights. They can be so dull! I wanted to create a night that I'd like to go to.
At the opening gig on 14th December Jaz bar will welcome Steve Reid fresh from playing at the Wellys Late Night Live and showing his guitar and song writing skills.
He'll be showcasing songs from his debut album And so on and so forth. Expect an excellent set!
Also, the Renegade Writers will perform their legendary poetry. So with music and poetry it should be one hell of a night!
The 21st December will see brand new talent Tim Watson gracing the stage to try out his songs.
He describes his sound as Kinda like the Beatles meets the White Stripes; melodic.
Supporting Tim are Hull stalwarts Randy Spears - an unusually chilled-out two piece band with a flamenqo-esque feel to them. Not to be missed!
After a short break for Christmas, Sunday 11th January will see the up and coming Steven Paul Brade'ee picking up a guitar to kick off -Sound- for '04.
He will treat the audience to his own brand of romantic soft rock love songs. Steven has been met with excitement at several gigs around Hull and is almost ready to release his album to the world!
Although the December gigs are filled for the headline acts, open mic is still open.
If anyone's interested in helping to promote or take part in -Sound- then please get in touch.

Coming Up - Freebase - 29th January 04 Adelphi, Hull / Kazbah, Scarborough - 28th January 04 by Cilla
The other day I received an email from Simon Fox, a drummer in a band from the Midlands.
He'd seen thisisUll.com on line, read some of the reviews and strangely enough, his band, Freebase will be playing the Adelphi in Hull on 28th January.
So I did a bit of research to get a preview of what to expect, what kind of music they play and who they are.

Ask Dorothy Advice Column, - My life is ruined.
Dear Dorothy,
writing to you is a last resort. I am so depressed I could kill myself.
Last year I spent all summer with my dad converting our garage into a practice room for our band. We had weeks of great weather, barbecues - me, my girlfriend and my buddies all shared this great close bond.
It was the happiest time of my life...or so I thought. Everything started to go wrong,

Aircraft and Airshows - The Yorkshire Airshow - Elvington 2003 By Tony
What a pleasure to be here for 2 days (24th - 25th August)! We were fully entertained with a diverse mix of aircraft.
Both days of the flying program opened with the superb Red Arrows. Unfortunately, on the first day they had to abort their display for safety reasons when three light aircraft strayed in to the six mile display zone. Without doubt there must be an investigation into this misdemeanour and culprits brought to book.
