Coming Up Artists Exhibition
The Incredible Hull - Hull Artists Exhibition at BEST in London - 18th December - 31st January 2005
Hull, where's Hull? continued
Prev Page

Cloudy
Cloudy has been obsessed with repeat patterns from the minute she was dragged to her first jumble sale in East Hull. It was here that she first discovered the beauty of moldy old curtains, fabrics and clothing from bygone eras.
Since then she has been screen-printing frantically in pursuit of the perfect pattern. She has refused to accept the 'digital revolution' and draws everything by hand and prefers to manipulate imagery using the good old photocopier as opposed to the Mac.

She has been commissioned as a stylist on a fashion shoot earlier in the year by the late Sleaze Magazine, with a focus on vintage clothing and accessories. She can often be found drunkenly DJ'ing with random 1960s 7inches under the pseudonym ' Polly Pocket' in clubs, bars and birthday parties across

London! She has exhibited her screen and mono-prints in a number of exhibitions in London over the past three years and is currently working on a collection of printed textile designs.
Eco
Eco/ Mat spent his early creative years losing himself and learning his craft in the now infamous Hull warehouse scene. He left university after falling out of love with graphic design, returned to Hull to finish his studies on the walls. Relocating to Bristol in 98 Eco has collaborated with several artists and designers.
The latest and most noted is with ehquestionmark (EH?) - Design team behind Lex Records beautifully crafted sleeves. The jewel in the crown being his cover for Danger Mouse and Gemini's highly acclaimed album Ghetto Pop Life. His latest manifestation is W.S.S.K (wet shame kingdom) Crew, a loose, tongue-in-check gathering of artists trying to move outside the tired constraints of graffiti. This has earned them a place in the new Street Logos book by Tristan Manco. In 2001 Eco began working for fashion label Griffin.

JAKe
Great things were predicted of this Hull lad when, in 1980, his natty felt tip rendition of Darth Vader won him a kingsize Dairy Milk bar in a local drawing contest.
Many years later, after moving to London, his record sleeve artwork for the likes of the Prodigy, Norman Cook, Ugly Duckling and Sugarhill Records exposed him to a worldwide audience, which included Lucasfilm, who commissioned JAKe to trade on his past glories and design a range of Star Wars t-shirts.
Recent projects have included graphics for the 'Hip Hop Immortals' events, comics, screen prints, collectable figures and collaborations with fashion labels Carhartt and Comme Des Garcons.

Paris Hair
Paris Hair AKA Neil McFarland was brought up by old ladies in other people's houses. Developing a taste for spending long periods of time alone with only paper and pencil he was steered toward a life of comics and animation.
Working as a cartoonist and commercial illustrator Neil has worked with a raft of blue chip clients; seeing his work produced in magazines, children's books, mobile phones and online.

Working as an animator he has produced music promos, two ten minute pieces for ITV1 series Mixmaster's and created an online animation series.

Continuing to work in print and moving image, Neil has also recently completed a short book and is developing a major animation project.

Detour
Detour is one of the original Hull graffiti writers. Detour is the original graffiti rock star. His work has always looked beyond the stereotype of the B Boys and Gangster images of hip hop.

A fanatical music lover his graffiti reflects this obsession with psychedelic 60's rock! Detour has recently moved towards the painting of canvases with a series of paintings of his musical heroes.
A local hero in Hull, he keeps it real, still painting the local Halls of Fame and talking to anyone who stops to say hello!
Paris
Paris was once nowt but skin and bone; he now is a portly fellow. A Great Industrialist & TCF Avant Garde, his duties to the Empire have been many. As a Knight of the Wet Shame he and his fellow compadres have endeavored to journey far beyond the call of duty. Current projects include:
A steam driven Warlock engine, an oil Monkey and a corporate whore flogging device. Born in the workhouses of Holderness, Kingstown upon the Hull, he has since bought properties and land in Bristol which once belonged to the King.

His star sign is Virgo.

Xenz
Xenz pronounced senz! He began painting graffiti in 1987. Today the art is a nucleus for his imagination and dreams.

When he paints he tries to involve the viewer by using a twisted perspective giving a sense of vertigo, creating a dreamlike landscape.
Xens tag forms the composition for all his paintings. He obeys the basic principles of graffiti except he disguises the letters as pictures instead of the traditional interlocking arrows. This satisfies his desire to paint letters, characters and backgrounds all in one painting.

Xens is the king of the concept, dreaming up the themes, concepts and ideas. He also works as a freelance designer and stylist for fashion and artwork I'm an ideas person with many skills I should get a proper job one day.
