Critical Platform - Luna Nera & Urban Tapestries
Wednesday 21st April 04 at the Live Art Space,
Ferens Gallery, Hull From 6 - 8pm, £2
Critical Platform is a monthly programme of seminars and discussions presenting the work of artists within the context of current artistic practise and theory.
Each event brings together artists and curators to explore themes and issues in live and digital arts, and provides a forum in which the audience can question and challenge the artists themselves.
This month's Critical Platform brings together the work of two groups that explore the psychogeography of specific sites and urban landscapes.
Gillian MacIver presents the work of Luna Nera, an artist-curator group that creates large-scale live and visual art events in disused premises in the East London area.
Luna Nera re-examine sites, addressing a series of issues surrounding society, community, history, memory and public space.
The work is created and presented in direct response to the environment, transcribing histories, memories, textures and functions into art.
Proboscis is a studio which researches, develops and facilitates innovative creative projects.
The organisation works across disciplines and practices, drawing upon artists, writers, curators, critics, designers, technologists, filmmakers, scientists and theorists to
develop new ways of exploring social, cultural and creative issues.
Giles Lane will present the group's Urban Tapestries project, exploring social and cultural uses of the convergence of place and mobile technologies.
The Urban Tapestries software platform allows people to author their own virtual annotations of the city, enabling a community's collective memory to grow organically in the new wireless
landscape of the city.

Music Reviews - Uberdruck at Substance - Welly Club - Friday 13th February 04 By Mike Mawe
Firstly I must say what an amazing atmosphere was created by the 350+ strong crowd at the Welly club that night.
It was a wet and rainy night before Valentines day and I got the impression the guys from Basespin were expecting a poor turn out and with problems flying in Uberdruck from Germany, things started to

Music Reviews - CRACKTOWN and Friends By Elsie Creek
I have seen Cracktown perform several times since the first night I met them, many months ago.
That wasn't even a gig as such - just an open mike acoustic night at The George (Land of Green Ginger) where they play each Thursday.
I got talking to the twosome after their set, and ever since then I've been hooked on their clever lyrics, catchy choruses and enigmatic ..

Music Reviews - Pat McCarthy - Jazz Guitar By Lyn Acton
Good Fellowship 4th and Pave 15th February 2004.
Pat McCarthy plays the kind of jazz guitar that I like. I've seen him a number of times, now and I have also had the good fortune to sing with him. He plays in a sensitive yet stylish understanding way which makes him a good accompanist and a pleasure to listen to on solo's. A good all-rounder then, so I guess these reviews may be biased.

Music Reviews - Bundi, Killer of Saints and Dumpvalve at The White Room, New Cleveland St, Hull - Saturday 21st February By Sue Watson
Bundi were playing when we arrived and after a bit of squeezing through crowds we were in a position to see SOME of the band.
The White Room is not the most user - friendly place to watch bands as there is a huge great pillar right in front of the stage.
I always think it must be
