Suzie's Social Conscience Part 6

Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Hi there! Well, I've given a little thought this week to those amazing people of outstanding conscience, courage and bravery. People who have risked their freedom, and even their lives, for a cause that they believe in. Take Martin Luther King, for example. How inspiring it was when he got up and made that speech.... I Have a Dream. Even more amazing, that over a decade later, he helped Abba put it to music and they had a big hit!! What a groovy guy!

Another guy I admire is that Nelson Mandela. How he must have felt when he was finally set Free as the song goes. I can relate to these people. They have been my role models throughout my life. I, too, know how it feels to experience pain, suffering and humiliation. Take my first year of prep school for example. How I was ostracised and tormented for a whole week just because Daddy only had one Porsche. Of course this was soon remedied when he found out about my ordeal, and I arrived home to find another one parked on one of our drives. But believe me the scars never really healed.

After this my tormentors tried to belittle me by calling me Ginger Minge in the showers. I had to resort to time consuming depilation to avoid this, and it wasn't funny. Well. I know how Nelson Mandela felt when he finally walked free. I felt the same when I finally left university (Oxford, for my sins..) . It took me eight whole years to get through my Sociology degree, and believe me, that student bar was really hot and claustrophobic. So I was glad to leave in the end.

Well, there you have it. My role models for life and beyond. I'd love to have met these idols of mine. Not that I'm one for hankering after celebrities or anything. People sometimes say I'm not in touch with the common people, but that's not true because I know Jarvis Cocker. Well people, that's enough for now. May your conscience live on and never be pricked.
