Shinobi at The Welly - Friday 3rd December 04

Friday the 3rd at the Welly saw December's instalment of it's monthly drum n bass event Shinobi - THE night to head for if you're after some rolling beats & twisted bass (their words, not mine).

The night was started 2 years ago in it's previous incarnation as Stealth at the Fez Club by three local boys, before they took it to its bigger and better location in the Welly ballroom.
This month's episode saw the confirmed DJ - SS - pull out just days before the event, although fortunately his shoes were more than filled by the technical wizardry of Mr. Simon Bassline Smith.

Resident DJs Mikey J, Ransom, Connect and MC AOB were also joined on the night by MCs Steppa, Warren G and other special guests.
The back room chill-out soundtrack was provided by the sterling efforts of residents from the Welly's own reggae extravaganza, Champion Sound.

The tunes were slammin' and the dance floor was jumpin'- check out the Shinobi/Eat Your Words festivities on Boxing Day for the next hit of all-round-griminess.
Why was the lion scared? Because the jungle was massive.

NightClub Review - What a year for Yo-Yo By Andrew Coe
Well what a year 2004 has been for Yo-Yo, Hulls longest running Indie night which was began nearly ten years ago way back in 1995 at The Welly Club. The night which boasts DJ Priya and ex Shed Seven front man Rick Witter as resident DJ's has enjoyed one of it's best Read more...

Band Interviews - Sweet n Sour at the Welly Club 22/07/2004 Mad Action Interview By Andy Dykes
After the show I go backstage. Admittedly it's partly to use the toilet, but also to catch up with the bands, particularly Mad Action, with whom an interview has been arranged. The lead singer and guitarist/backing-vocalist from Kasabian are immediately welcoming, allowing me to use their toilet without fear of violence or harassment. Read more...

Interviews Music - About UNDER THE INFLUENCE
By Dean Shakespeare
Back in the mid 90's, after the Hacienda and Madchester hype had died down, the press pigeon-holed the whole new breed of guitar music coming from the U.K. and labelled it Brit Pop. At the forefront of DJ's and promoters at that time showing an interest in this music in Hull was DJ Priya (Welly) and the Room nightclub. Read more...

Music Reviews - 10,000 Things at Jaz Bar - 26th October 04 By Caroline Murphy
So what do the music magazines know about the sensitive side of a group of sexed up 20-some-Things! Their stage show gives anything but that impression, but close-up and personal in the smaller venues of Hull Jaz Bar and Shrewsbury Buttermarket, I can tell a different story. Read more...

Music Reviews - The Morphines and The 89 80s at The Sesh, Linnet and Lark - 30th November 04 By Andy Dykes, Photos by Darren Rogers
Once again tonight, Princes Ave's Linnet and Lark plays host to a evening of live bands. With a stage littered with instruments and a bar crowded with rock n roll types, it looks suitably like the home of what is fast becoming one of the most widely respected and indeed played evenings in Hull. Tonight's headliners Read more...

Music Reviews - 27th October - CrackTown, Wooden Ghost and Attila the Stockbroker at The Adelphi By Jason Karlson
We used to pose for the Grattan's catalogue, and sometimes Kay's if money was really tight, declares Silver Fox as they strike another of their notorious and hilarious catalogue poses. Tonight we're treated to the Space Hopper and Mr Frosty's Slush making machine. Yes, its time Read more...

Music Reviews - Blind Frog Ernie, Blue Sand the Applewhites and Displacements at Piper November23rd By Michelle Dee Photos by Darren Rogers
The Piper club on Newland Avenue has, according to many people, always had something of a volatile reputation. On more than one occasion I have heard reports from people that you always get fights and fracas at the venue. Indeed the last time I went to the Piper there was a very Read more...

A four course set menu for the night of eclectic musical treats to appeal to the most diverse of palettes. Sgt. Buzfuz - This acoustic performer opened and closed the night with two short sets. Music Reviews - Josh Rouse and Tim Keegan at Pocklington Arts Centre - November 22nd 2004 By Nick Quantrill
Pocklington Arts Centre is a beautifully intimate all seated venue. It's the perfect venue for tonight's gig. With high sound quality and acoustics, it's no wonder so many acts speak well of this little known venue. Tonight saw one of America's finest singer-songwriters, Josh Rouse, take to its stage Read more...

Music Reviews - The Coal Porters at Pocklington Arts Centre - 15th November 04 By Steve Rudd
Brandishing brilliant brushstrokes of Alison Krauss-creased Bluegrass music as it is meant to sound, this quintet in the Mojo-magazine-championed Coal Porters played to an almost sold-out venue in the small town of Pocklington on that one night of the week when most people prefer Read more...
