So many people and so little time a communication breakdown, not five bands next time around. The chosen five were Blueslide Circle, Keava, Dirty Dreamers, Ernest and Turismo.

More people, than was healthy, packed in to the Sesh on a cold winters night inside Linnet and Lark. All the bands suffered in some way this evening for their art. The guy at the sound desk had a sea of people between him and the stage, so the usual smooth running of the now legendary Sesh night couldn't happen.
Even with DJ Mark jumping up and down on his newly acquired stool to direct proceedings, there simply was no way to make the segues from his set flow seamlessly into live sessions.

That said everyone was having an awesome night. So many names and faces, graced us with their presence including Alan Raw and Katy Noone from the Raw Talent team.

Turismo were top really lifted the crowd, highlight of the pub part of the night. Baggot mixed uniquely English songs including the excellent Chinese Tortures with stories full of northern grit and determination.
He climbed on a speaker to be seen by the whole crowd. There was a great cheer when he appeared above the backs, of hundreds of heads.

Dirty Dreamers played 12-inch versions of all their numbers. Baz Chris and Co. took advantage of the fact, no one could get to the stage to tell them to come to a close.
There were times tonight when the Dreamers soared and lost you somewhere in the moment. Blueslide Circle didn't go down to well. I enjoyed them, though they sounded much better at Adelphi not long back.

The crowd just weren't ready for them, even though Hideaway is played alongside other local bands nearly every week. The drum solo does it for me it brings back memories of when I first heard J. Bonham do Black Dog.
There were, too many people for comfort in tonight. It was ridiculous. I ventured into the crowd and after two minutes I was trapped. I couldn't go forward nor sideward, the way behind me was fraught with problems. So, I stood there and waited for people to wander past me, instead of trying to seek them out. It was claustrophobic, just too many people.
However, after the squash inside the pub all stresses were soon forgotten, as the bright headlamps of our carriage ploughed its way stoutly through the rain up Princes Avenue. The bus ride was really good fun; Mel from Attic, dressed as the conductor she came in to Sesh while Turismo played the siren number.

She was a very bizarre spectacle, with something of a mother hen disposition towards her charges. We shiny faced revellers on the fabulous 1950s bus enjoyed every minute of our ride. The engine coughed and spluttered threatening to cut out which added to the excitement and vintage feel of that memorable journey.

A great way to travel and the key to making the night so successful. If the transport is laid on you don't have to think about braving the elements or chasing unreliable taxis to continue your fun.
First impressions of Grapevine at Attic: The drinks roulette challenge is a lot of fun, and all though I haven't managed to hit on the Free Drinks icon, I saw many that did. Before long there were people whispering conspiratorially about the best method of winning. There is a television at the right of the bar that was showing a Mick Jagger film possibly Deliverance, then some martial arts movie. Every so often one can glance at the screen and reminisce or marvel at the seventies cine-magic.

Band Interviews - Sweet n Sour at the Welly Club 22/07/2004 Mad Action Interview By Andy Dykes
After the show I go backstage. Admittedly it's partly to use the toilet, but also to catch up with the bands, particularly Mad Action, with whom an interview has been arranged. Music Reviews - Monday 28th February - Black Orchid, Diverse Unit, Second To Last, The Regicides at the Ringside
By Harry Slater
It's cold tonight, not as cold as it was this morning, but cold enough to complain about. The garish decoration of The Ringside makes a welcome change from the browns and greys of a city thawing out. The outside door, as per usual, scares the crap out of me as it slams shut Read more...
