Legalise Cannabis campaign

Well, hello again. It's been absolutely, positively, ages since the last words from me on this page. I must first apologise for my tardiness and I do come with a note from my mum !. It has been the first week of my summer holiday and I have been a little too 'party party' I'm afraid. However here I am now and I'm gonna try and give you a bit of info on whats been occurring and what is about to happen on the wishy-washy shores of this young prodigy of U.K culture known as 'ULL .

CAROLYN xxxx

At Pearson park on Saturday 14th of June, around 300 revellers gathered to peacefully protest at the abominable laws imposed on smokers of marijuana. A march (with around 100 ish people) was led from The Queens gardens, down Spring Bank and Princes Ave to the park by our local campaigner for the legalisation of marijuana- Karl Wagner. There was only I think (don't quote me), 2 arrests and those to our knowledge weren't drug related.

Give us your info if you are better equipped with the knowledge.

Take a look at these pics that I have taken at the cannabis awareness day .They're not too bad considering I had been there for a good few hours with many drinks and toots doing the rounds (!).
Please, if you have any info on the sound system that was banging out those uplifting tunes I would love to hear from you. E.mail me!!. Their set went from very chilled trancy beats through to some great toots and dub and ended on the joyous sounds of underground DnB.
Karl Wagner has been organising the Hull smoky bears picnic now for 3 years. It is a global event that takes place on the same day all over the world. He stands as a local election candidate on behalf of the Legalise Cannabis Alliance and has a great little stall in the Hull indoor market situated in the old town. He sells everything from novelty smoking pipes to accurately referenced botany books (!) and is always on hand to give some sound advice on most of your needs.

Saturday 21st of June then saw the national Refugee week being brought to a close in Hull with a live music gig in the Queens Gardens. This featured Kurdish and Muslim bands and singers giving us a wonderful musical treat on a stage focused around the bandstand. According to my sources around 4000 people drifted in through Q.G to take a look at stalls selling ecologically sound clothing, ice-cream vans, bouncy castles and of course music. Police presence seemed to be a little much but they are based in that area and it must have been hard to judge what sort of atmosphere was going to ensue. All in all the day was good, well organised and happy. Please send your photos and views if you were there and I'll put them on the site.

Music Reviews - Miss Black America at the Adelphi Wednesday 10th December By Cilla
I was as always, in a blind panic - half an hour to get ready (unheard of - and a girl my age needs time to apply the slap!) - late news that Miss Black America were playing at the Adelphi - tonight - the band that apparently John Peel (my hero) had heralded as 'the next big thing' ... and the batteries for the camera still hadn't recharged from the its last outing .... Late again, but the Adelphi was really heaving - obviously more people read the Daily Mail.. Read more...

Now then all! As usual a review or two from me - better late than never!! I hope that you are all well and have been partying hard to get into the Christmas Spirit this year. It's been a busy year, especially for all those involved in thisisull.com. Music Reviews - Shindigg/Silence in the Streets/Build Up to Nothing/Killer of Saints/The Flatmates Adelphi, Hull
by Eammon Chirdlich - Sunday 30th Nov.
I arrived at the Adelphi with some trepidation - an afternoon of live music with five bands, only one of which I'd seen live before and from their names, it sounded like a real mixed bag. Nevertheless, I paid my three pounds and prepared.. Read more...

Music Reviews - Sidewinder, still life and Martyn Wharrie Adelphi Club 20th November by Cilla and Mo
We started off the evening badly by arriving late at the gig. Shame on us, we missed most of the first performance. However, what I did hear made me want to listen. Mo came along too and he was knocked out - by all the musicians we saw. I think he thought I was exaggerating when I raved about still life and Sidewinder in my last review - until he saw for himself. Read more...

Cooking - Chicken Curry by Anne
We have spent most of the week-end at the WOMAD festival in Reading. We spent loads of money on food which was a bit disappointing and when we got home we thought it might be nice to try to make something like a WOMAD curry. This is a really gorgeous curry Read more...

NightClub Reviews - Fuel NightClub By Carolyn
As Friday night bounced away in its masses I hot footed it along with photographer Dee down to the opening night of Hulls newest café bar/nightclub FUEL. And what a splendicious night we embarked on!. I had the level of fun that only a damn good sun drenched, off-it and 'avin it week away gives you. As the flyer so confidently and rightly said

Interviews Will Self
Tuesday 17th of June saw the excellent arrival into Hull of the delightful satirical journalist and dryer than arrid anti-perspirant Will Self. The man himself graced around 250 eager punters at the Pave cafe bar on Princes Avenue at 6.45 p.m.. And guess who was lucky enough to have a prime seat by the stage window with the Kronenbourg flowing effortlessly and the company in keep, divine?!.

Opinions - Refill Not Landfill
By Cilla
What do you think about the price of printer cartridges?

I can't afford them. My printer has long periods of rest between bouts of frenzied use while the colours still give any semblance of anything other than black and white. The very idea of the printer being useable is a treat for the whole family!
