Articles - Star Wars Enter the Folk Music Scene
By Patrick Henry.
The NorthYorkshire moors are a remote area full of historical incidents up to the present when the Fylingdales missile-defence station has just been pledged to the U.S. Star-Wars system. Roman forts, Viking raids, besieged castles from the Normans to the Stuarts, litter the fringes. The Cold War nuclear brink .. Read more...

Articles Part Five -1973: Super tug to defend fishing fleet
By John Boldock
After a couple of months out in Iceland I am getting a little homesick - worse as I am still a rookie at this game. We have been patrolling an area of South-East Iceland for a few days now, looking after a pack of around 30 trawlers. We have to keep them together as it is the only way to protect them. A boat on its own out here is fair game for the gunboats. Read more...

Articles - A Perspective on Hull By Darren Sant
I suppose you could call this article a follow to my article entitled Stranger in a Strange Land also on this website. I wanted to explore my perception of Hull in a stream of consciousness kind of style. One phrase that springs to mind when thinking of Hull is self-deprecating. Something I have, rightly, being accused of being myself. Perhaps that is why I have grown to like Hull so much.

Articles Reply to - Woe is Me - I Live in Hull
By Nick Quantrill
After reading the article by Allen Miles on the 'is Hull crap or not?' debate I want to add my views. It's something that has been on my mind recently owing to my girlfriend moving to the city full time. Although I've lived in Hull all my life it's only now that I've really thought about whether or not Hull qualifies as a.. Read more...

Articles - "More Memories of Dylan" By Jane
I remember clearly the first time I ever listened to the great Bob, however I cannot recall when exactly I decided that I liked him.. Having just left home on impulse at the tender age of 18, straight from a council estate to the Avenues in a vain attempt to 'better' myself, I ended up in a somewhat squalid (ie typical) bedsit on Park Grove. Owned by a somewhat dodgy (ie typical) landlord called Mr Leak ( cos all his roofs did just that). Read more...

Articles - Woe is Me - I Live in Hull
By Allen Miles
When you catch a train to hull, something happens that sums up the experience of coming here. The rail stops. It doesn't run through the city like the tracks of so many other towns. It simply comes to an abrupt halt as if to say (in a Vincent Price style voice) "You're here now. WE'VE GOT YOU NOW. HA HA HA HA HA!". Read more...

Articles - Hull - A Personal History Part Three
By Bryan Holgate
The old shop at Broady's was converted into offices in about 1967; a new shop was built at ground level with the office staff looking over the "workers" It was very modern and we all felt a little out of place. The huge old solvent tank filled with petrol used to clean parts was replaced with one using environmentally friendly solution; ..Read more...

Articles - "The Garden - 29th May 2003" By Nadie
We sit together in the warm afternoon sun. The garden is in full bloom, she has worked so hard on this garden, planting and digging, it's a beautiful sight, full of colour. She turns to me and says 'I want to be here to watch my plants grow'. I reach for her hand and squeeze it,'I know, I know you do'. It seems so unreal to sit there and talk of death, of plans for her funeral.Read more...

Articles - Hull - A Personal History Part Two
By Bryan Holgate
The one thing none of us apprentices really expected was to have to go back to school. Well, this was mandatory, as one of our teachers said at Queens Gardens "there is more to life than a screwdriver and a lathe". How true, there was beer. We went to the pub for lunch and a game of darts; unfortunately as with most youngsters we knew not when to quit.

Articles - Part Four Adopted in Hull by Diane
It took many cups of coffee and a brave heart to open this letter that had been in my shaking hand for hours after it arrived. Terrible thoughts of, 'What if she denies me, hates me, has awful stuff to tell me about the life I never had'. All negative stuff, no room for a happy ending or the remotest thought of open loving arms. Read more...

Articles - There IS Life After Alcohol - Part 1
By Squirrel
After visiting thisisUll.com My only visit to Hull was with a house-mate while at college - taking in the Hull fair and riding a couple of the rides. The 'Enterprise ' and a loop the loop one I seem to recall after a few of the amber nectars many moons ago. I was interested in the article 'Diary from a detox'.

Articles - Hull is Fab and Super
by Suzie Horsington-cum-Scoff
Well I couldn't believe it when I heard that two nasty people had published a book about Hull being a crap town. Which is why I have decided to show my social conscience and write this article. Apparently it all started with someone called Finlay Cooks-Britain, who is a celebrity chef or something, slagging Hull off as being crap and smelly.

Articles - My Youth Days at Hull Fair by Barry Sleight
Hull Fair has always played an important role in my life. As a kid we all went to the fair as one big family. My Grandad and Granny came with us as did many of my cousins. I remember how exciting it used to be as you got nearer and could see the lights and smell popcorn and hotdogs and hear the music.

Articles - Is Hull really No.1 Crap Town?
By Jane Foster
As you may have seen in the media, Hull has been voted top of the list of the 50 crappest towns to live in, within the UK.
If I may point out from the beginning, without being pedantic, that Hull is not a town but a city - therefore it is not eligible for this title anyway. But for the sake of argument I'll carry on.
