What Do You Remember - And Where? By Tegwen Roberts www.geog.hull.ac.uk/memoriesofhull

Hull University Geography Department is running a new research project on memory and landscape in Hull. We're interested in the things that Hull residents of different ages remember about their daily lives, and how these sorts of memories are attached to different parts of the modern-day city. We think this is particularly important at the moment as the city is undergoing large-scale regeneration and so many of the places we use everyday are changing faster than ever before.

As part of the project we've set up a website to try and get as many Hull residents as possible (young and old) to share their everyday memories of the city. The website features photographs of different parts of Hull as it is now and we'd like you to have a look and tell us what you remember about the places in the photographs. It doesn't matter whether they're memories from 6 months or 60 years ago, we'd like to hear them!

For instance, do you know the area the photograph was taken in? Have you ever lived or worked in any of the buildings, or do you know anybody that did? Did you play in any of the drains or the streets in the photographs, or did you go to any of the cinemas or night-clubs? Are your memories of these places good or bad? Have the areas in the photographs changed? Can you remember what they were like before? We'd also like to know if you've got memories of things in the same areas that we haven't photographed!

At the moment the photographs concentrate mainly on 5 areas: Hessle Road, Anlaby Road, the Avenues and Dukeries, the River Hull, and Holderness Road, but there are some photographs of other areas as well. You can also read what other people have written, and respond to their comments and stories, and we'll keep the website constantly updated so there should always be something new to look at if you come back and visit us again.
