Football fans claim being taken to their first match is a more memorable occasion than their partners' birthdays, and even their first kiss, according to a new research from www.backyourclub.com. The research of football fans* reveals that 83% of dedicated supporters can recall the first match they attended. However, when it comes to their partners' birthdays, a fans' memory becomes increasingly vague with one in four (25%) not able to name this 'supposedly' important date.

Even more astonishing is that supporters are more likely to remember who their team's opposition were on that day (known by 77%) than their partner's birthday. The report also found that two-thirds of fans (65%) can recall the score of the match they first attended, with an impressive 41% of respondents able to name the scorers as well.

A first kiss, traditionally a significant moment, is also less memorable for football fans, with almost one in five supporters (19%) not being able to remember the occasion. Further bad news for football WAGS (wives and girlfriends) finds over 25% of male supporters did not know their partners' birthday. Alison Rolls, spokesperson for www.backyourclub.com comments: "These results show how being taken to your first match is a significant moment in a person's life. Some of the more traditional key milestones such as a partner's birthday or a first kiss are taking a back seat as football fans appear to suffer from a selective memory - but ask them to name the team and scorers and it all comes flooding back."

The research concluded that it was only mothers' (91%) and fathers' (87%) birthdays that proved to be more memorable to supporters than attending their first match.
